Happy as a Bat & Blind as a Clam ReviewMr. Stephen Borsak,
I just received your "Happy as a Bat...Blind as a Clam" CD.
After one listening, I immediately noticed your "clean" pickin' and sweet singin'.
You seem to have a unique, "slightly bent", take on traditional folk music, and what makes it really work is that with your voice and guitar style, you at first, sound like a "mainstream" folk singer ... but it eventually sinks in that your ideas, and the words you are singing are more off beat and alternative. I hear Dylan, Biff Rose and even Steve Martin's "folk satire" in your songs.
I also like the way you kept the arrangement simple, sparse and casual, like you are just sitting there playing for me LIVE.
Anyway, as you say "sound advise" is cheap: my favorites so far are "Story 61": clean pickin' and singin' and great opener, "Jessie" (love the words, the dog and the banjo), "Looking for Heroes", (yeah that whole thing about Diana, Mother Theresa and then John Denver passing away, resonated with me as well), "Titi's Wake...Are you dead?" (this is my VERY favorite, these same ideas run through my head when confronting "grim death" at someone's wake), "History of Philosophy"; I too am a big "philosophy guy" on MY "Rosa and the mystic vagrant" CD there is a song called "According to Camus", and "Wonderful Life" (a nice minimalist thought and a strong ending track). --Lou RussoHappy as a Bat & Blind as a Clam Overview
