Live at Jimmy Dukes ReviewHere's an interesting and enjoyable live recording. It's by "Little Big Men" (Dan Burns, Dan Conner and "Bongo" Bob Goldsand) and was put on as a Dark-Thirty Productions House Concert in Lakeside, California. The concerts are presented by Jimmy Duke and Linda Piro and the title of the CD is "Live at Jimmy Duke's." The music is all acoustical and recorded before a live appreciative audience (about 70 people) with only minor cuts in the program.
Recording of the program was managed by Joe Rathburn and is rather good considering that it was done in a house with slight background noises provided by the live audience. The sound is somewhat sparse, as is the case with most non-supplemented trios. Probably the music would be categorized as folk, although I always dislike those genre classifications. It's good music, very well done and provides good easy-going listening. The songs are a mixture of folk classics and a newer batch probably provided mostly by Dan Conner, the lead vocalist. The backing instrumental music is mostly provided by acoustical guitars, harmonica and the percussion art of "Bongo Bob."
It's an enjoyable album, if you appreciate live music. Of course, it would be even better if you were there. At this point, I should probably disclose that I'm somewhat biased in that I'm in the recording and provided applause as one of the lucky audience members.
