Handed Down the Wire ReviewEvery song on this album is a good listen, and stands a fair chance of getting stuck in my head. I particularly like By The Wayside and For Yourself but the other tracks are rather catchy as well. I expected to hear Greg work it out on guitar a little, but was very pleased to find the emphasis on Greg's singing. As the lead guitarist for Camper Van Beethoven, it seems that Greg sings little more than occasional fill (LA LA LA LA, LA LA LA LA. . .) yet here he carries the lead vocals quite competently. The overall sound reminds me a lot of Steve Howe's solo album BEGINNINGS. The lead guitarist for Yes, Howe rarely sings, but like Lisher on HDtW, his plaintive vocals are a surprise highlight of the solo effort.
If you like melodic tunes, and tasty riffing, and have a tendency towards loving MONKS OF DOOM material I think you should give this one a try.
