Adelitas Way ReviewAdelitas Way, accomplishes what all great rock albums do. It has something for everyone, it's cool, it's hot, it's loud, it whispers, it rocks, it's emotional, it grips your soul and it is a hellava great record. This new band out of Las Vegas writes songs with great melodies, superior musicianship, unforgettable riffs, hard rockin guitar sections, heart tugging lyrics and energizing vocals. Destined to be 2009's most favorite album , I see why WWE have already picked up two of their songs.
I first caught the band, Adelitas Way, at a local concert opening for 10 Years. From the first song there was no mistaking that his band was chock full of supremely talented musicians. Watching this band live is an incredible experience not to be missed, and now fans are treated with their long awaited debut album. And what an album it is. Do not let this one pass you by, Adelitas Way has something very very special that you won't wanna miss.
The album opens with three strong selections in a row. The heart pounding power anthem and WWE theme song "Invincible", followed by one of the heaviest tracks on the album "Scream" and "Dirty Little Thing" destined to be the most memorable track and one everyone will love. The height of the album comes at track 6 and 7. My favorite "So What If You Go" effortlessly transitions into the soul ripping track "Closer to You". The album changes into the crunchy, funky guitar track "Just A Little Bit" and closes with the very sad "Brother". Missing from the album is "Inside", and by my estimation probably one of their best-but no fear, you get it for joining their mailing list.
Highlights:
"So What If You Go" - Guitar, Guitar, Guitar, you can't mistake what guitarists Chris and Keith bring to this album, and this song displays some of their work. This is probably my favorite song on the album. The opening transition and screaming riff tears me apart every time. At 2:49 Chris launches into a beautifully integrated solo that rings with fervor and passion rarely seen in a young band.
"Closer to You" - The anthemy opening fits perfectly at this point on the album. This song has what all great songs possess, it's happy and sad all at the same time and gets deep inside your heart and stays there.
"Just A Little Bit" - has a funky vibey opening riff that makes this one of my favorite tracks and is just plain fun. It's the ultimate party track and displays some of the albums best guitar work.

Blackbird ReviewOkay, so it's now official. Creed is dead, and Alter Bridge is here to stay.
Back in the summer of 2004, when AB's major-label debut "One Day Remains" was released, a lot of folks wrote these guys off as Creed clones or wannabes, merely because 3/4 of the band is made up of ex-members of Creed. And while some Creed-like sounds were present on that disc, on the whole it was fresh and exciting music from a completely different band. Guitarist Mark Tremonti was permitted to play in a fashion he never had before during his Creed days and the rhythm section, comprised of drummer Scott Phillips and bassist Brian Marshall (who actually left Creed before their 2001 release "Weathered"), really showed off its A-game. However, the true ace in the hole for these guys was new frontman Myles Kennedy, of Mayfield Four fame. With vocal range and passion that Scott Stapp couldn't match on his best day, Kennedy slowly emerged as a voice to be reckoned with in modern rock. The band had a few semi-successful singles in the form of "Open Your Eyes," "Find The Real," and "Broken Wings" (as well as WWE wrestler Edge using "Metalingus" as his entrance theme), but on the whole it seemed as if they couldn't escape from Creed's shadow. And although One Day Remains was certified Gold, the band's future didn't look too bright, as they remained unheard from for the better part of nearly three years.
Enter their Universal-Republic debut, just released today: Blackbird.
How does it sound? Well, to be perfectly honest, *much* better than the debut. These guys have clearly matured a great deal musically. Gone are almost any traces of the Creed sound that "remained." (No pun intended.) I suspect that a lot of that has to do with the fact that frontman Kennedy actually participated in the songwriting this time around, whereas the songs on One Day Remains were almost all Tremonti's work. And speaking of Mark, damn...how about those solos on this disc?! The man continues to push his own creative boundaries and make Alter Bridge's second release rock even harder than the first. Having only had this album for about four hours, I haven't had a significant opportunity to listen to it enough for it to sink in, but so far I like, no, *love* what I hear. Thus far, my favorite tracks are "Come To Life," single "Rise Today," "White Knuckles," and of course the epic, near eight-minute long title track dedicated to the memory of a friend of the band.
On a side note, the copy of Blackbird that I purchased from Wal-Mart included not any bonus track(s) but rather a bonus DVD, featuring interviews with Kennedy, Tremonti, and Phillips (and to a *much* lesser extent Marshall) about the songs and creation of the new album.
Take heed, rock fans. With Blackbird, this reviewer feels that Alter Bridge will finally get the respect they deserve.

VH1 Storytellers - The Doors (A Celebration) (2001) ReviewI almost did not buy this DVD, because I'd heard from one or two people that all the guest singers were "playing dress-up" as Jim Morrison. I bought it anyway, and realized they were completely wrong, right from the first track. This was a reverent tribute to The Doors and Jim Morrison. The energy and passion for the music was electric, and everyone was there just to say thanks to Jim and The Doors for bringing us their music. From their own music and the attitude these artists approached Jim's role with, it's obvious that every one of them was heavily inspired in their own art by Jim, and this is their way of giving something back to him. The backup musicians were wonderful, especially on The End. Admittedly, it took me a few listens to really enjoy hearing someone other than Jim sing it, but anyone who just sits back with an open mind and listens will definitely enjoy this. Not all of the singers were "up to Jim's level", but hell, Jim wasn't always up to Jim's level. He wasn't god, he was a creative, inspired frontman, performing with three other wonderful artists. This DVD is worth every penny, just for the musical performances by the three remaining members. The Doors have been my favorite group for about fifteen years now (*before* the movie came out, yes), and I feel very safe saying that this was the best, or at least as good as, I've ever heard them play. I've heard all the studio and live albums, even rare bootlegs. All three of them are thrilled to be back together, here. Robbie's playing was fast, incredibly controlled and filled with passion, John played the drums like a whirlwind, and Ray was ecstatically making love to his keyboards. If you're a Doors fan, or just a fan of the guest singers, I suggest you try this DVD. Don't think of it as people trying to "measure up" to Jim, or replace him, but think of it as a party in celebration of the art that he and the other three Doors created together.VH1 Storytellers - The Doors (A Celebration) (2001) OverviewVH1 STORYTELLERS:DOORS:CELEBRATION - DVD Movie
