All Songs Considered from NPR ReviewMy name is Bob Boilen; I am director of NPR's All Things Considered. If you know the program, you may have found yourself curious about the little music snippets you've heard between news stories. I pick much of that music. After many years and many thousands of requests, there is this CD. It contains some of those great "buttons" that have been a signature of our daily news program.
This CD is filled with mostly unknown independent artists. There is a great piano tango, remarkable guitar music, a Norwegian fiddle tune, Hungarian Cymbalom music played with 8 "bowhammers", Spanish accordion, American jazz, a rock dirge and other music that is better heard than described.
I compiled this cd so I'm biased, but the musicians on this record are remarkable, and I hear a lot of music. Each song is a wonderful journey. I tried to put together a collection that on the one hand is eclectic but on the other is very accessable. The cd also benefits National Public Radio. Enjoy !

Slider- Ambient Excursions for Pedal Steel Guitar ReviewModern music fans recognize Bruce Kaphan's name from his work with American Music Club, Chris Isaak, REM, Black Crowes, John Lee Hooker and David Byrne. It's a rare treat to get an instrumental album from such an accomplished sideman. This collection of instrumental "new age" music was originally recorded for the prestigious Hearts Of Space label, and its tone is consistent with the sound of their popular radio show.

The tunes are dreamy, multi-layered steel tracks, dripping with echoes and punctuated with diamond edges. Bruce Kaphan combines his double-neck pedal steel, the recording studio, and a few tasty acoustic instruments to create beautiful ambient tapestries. Night Song ReviewI am writing a review of Night Music because I feel that Nusrat's music is very important to rock and roll. This Pakistani singer, who sadly passed away a few years back, had the power to touch the soul with his singing. Though I can't understand a word he said, Night Music's feelings are well received. I like to think of Nusrat's music as mesmerizing and hypnotic as well as emotionally raw. Michael Brook just enhances Nusrat's ideas, making this recording a haunting, painfully sweet listen. This is a must have for any rock collector. Thank you to Peter Gabriel for creating his RealWorld label in which we get to hear such fine musicians from other countries of the world.Night Song Overview
