He had a free flow style that worked. you can hear some Ray Charles Harmony in his overall delievery as well. the amazing thing about Johnny Guitar Watson is that he re-invented himself from the Blues&adapted to the Funk&brought along his own bag of the Funk. BrotherMan was doing it all as a Writer, Arranger, Producer&overall Multi Instrumentalist. He gave Social Commentary, always had Humor&a down home folk vibe that was timeless as his Guitar Playing.
