Passion Session ReviewPunchy or melodic, Celtic, or (?), this guy does it all; and blends techniques like no one I've ever heard. Amazing right- and left-hand work, timing, and musical sensability. This guy can play with anybody. He summons many of the same sounds from his guitar as the late Michael Hedges, though he developed them independently, more or less at the same time as Michael did. But, it's all part of the music. Like he says: Heavy Wood.The simple production style really works. The recording is wonderful and nothing gets between you and the music.
I was just introduced to Don Ross's music two weeks ago from a friend's friend in Vancouver, BC. It sure is hard for Canadians to get exposure in the US. I've been listening to "new acoustic music" for 20 years and I had never heard of him.
