SongXpress Play Their Songs Now Grateful Dead (DVD with Overpack) ReviewThis DVD will teach you how to play the main identifying licks from four Greateful Dead songs, and then how to play their chords. After showing you these basics, a singer and guitar player are shown playing/singing the song through, with band backing and overlays of the chord names. I gave it four stars because it is professionally produced, and does a good visual job at delivering at that basic task. The DVD includes short one-page PDFs of the main rif, as well as mp3 files of the songs themselves, both with and without backing.
So, overall a very good job. However, if you are interested in more than the main rif and chords of the songs, you should buy the Nate LaPointe DVDs instead. You will get much more guitar detail than just main rifs and basic chords. Whereas the LaPointe videos are not as polished in terms of the instruction (no overlays of the chord names or of chord fingering, for example), there is much more instruction of the different guitar parts in the songs, including fingerings actually used by Jerry and Bob, and includes walk-throughs of song solos, too. Nate had produced two Grateful Dead instruction DVDs, and one of them includes the same songs as on this DVD, plus Sugar Magnolia, China Cat Sunflower, Shakedown Street , and Touch of Grey.SongXpress Play Their Songs Now Grateful Dead (DVD with Overpack) Overview
