Maitre De La Melodie ReviewThis is an interesting collection of "modern" French songs from members of Les Six and other 20th century composers. Some are strident, some are tender, some are amusing. All are well performed by Hugues Cuenod, who was in his prime when these were recorded. And a very long prime it was - he is still alive, at the age of 108, and his career ran from the 1920's to the 1980's. His Met opera debut was, IIRC, at the age of 84!
His voice is not one of memorable tone, but his phrasing is perfectly adapted to the various moods of the material, and his diction is clear but not annoyingly precise. Good luck finding a copy at a reasonable price.Maitre De La Melodie Overview
