Douglas Cole ReviewMy brother has this to say of the creation of the Douglas Cole project :
" Most of the music on this album followed a definite format: Angie would be inspired with a rhythm pattern; a theme, I suppose; then I'd help her structure it and get her to play it a while . As she's playing it I'm listening and playing along. A melody is evoked from the patterns in the theme and soon we have a song. DOUGLAS COLE was such-like. the theme actually belongs to another song, one with lyrics that will appear on a future album. That song is called HAZY BLUE. She slowed down the rhythm a bit and instead of going into any vocals, I laid down that haunting classical guitar solo. I think we did ALIVE IN YOU in the same session cuz they have that same feel to them. The melodies were basically composed en studio . At the listen-to in the control room I put in that other acoustic lead; there's a classical guitar lead and an acoustic guitar lead that we ended up sort of overlapping or intertwining to get that certain feel.
" We were gonna leave it as is but as we listened to it over the next few days, other voices seemed to be evoked or deduced out of the sound already there. At the next session we added those voices; a bass guitar and some really smooth strings. We were almost not going to do any enhancements in '07 because Angie was so tight with her rhythm slaps on her guitar but we managed to add drums by keeping them low so as to augment not replace Angie's rhythm. I've remarked ; and heard it remarked to me; how gifted Angie is with her rhythm. It's one of her many gifts and I, for one, am quite thankful for it."

These days WAKE is backed up by a band of high quality musicians who's sound - along with my brother's excellent guitar work - is reminiscent of Santana.
My brother's musical influence - besides Santana - are the artistic stylings of Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton and David Gilmour. He has been playing guitar for 30 years or more and I back him up on piano whenever I get the opportunity.Douglas Cole Overview
