Jesus and ME ReviewGlen Campbell is a longtime favorite artist of mine. His career has covered many genres of music. Just look at all the different artists he played for during his studio musician days! There were earlier forays in Gospel music. He recorded the "O Happy Day" album for Capitol. His composition "Less Of Me" has been a favorite with Gospel artists. A concert album included "The Lord's Prayer." I Knew Jesus (Before He Was A Star) was a hit. That album featured "Amazing Grace," with Glen on bagpipes. Yet the 80s and 90s brought a fresh committment to Christianity and Gospel music. This collection features many great songs. He recut "Amazing Grace." There are duets with Russ Taff and Anne Murray. He played a guitar solo on "The Boy In Me." Famed Christian trumpet player Phil Driscoll co-wrote "Jesus In Me." Glen said that it was like his life flashed before Phil's eyes. Sadly, I can't give this collection 5 stars. Several things bug me. 1. The practice of sticking new songs on a greatest hits collection should be illegal. There are two here. Ditto for remakes or live versions of old hits. 2. Most of these songs come from his New Haven albums "Show Me Your Way" and "The Boy In Me." How come no songs were included from "Wings Of Victory," the album in between? 3. We get the title song of his Word album "No More Night." If they could get it, how come they couldn't also license songs from the "Favorite Hymns" album? This would have made a great double album. Here's what I would have included. 1. Tall Oak Tree 2. Who's Minding The Garden? 3. I Will Arise 4. Wings Of His Victory 5. Searchin' Love (with Free Call) 6. I Surrender All 7. Suffer The Little Children (with Johnny Cash) 8. Less Of Me 9. The Lord's Prayer 10. Someone Above 11. O Happy Day 12. I Knew Jesus (Before He Was A Star)Jesus and ME Overview

After the Music Stops ReviewI have been following Lecrae since his first album. He is perhaps my favorite Cross Movement artist, and he continues the trend on his new album "After the Music Stops."
Let me begin by saying that so much of Christian rap has a disconnect of emotions and earnestness that exists in the best secular rap (old DMX, Tupac, BIGGIE, even Eminem). They either have good convicting lyrics and half done beats, or great beats with watered down lyrics. Cross Movement and Lecrae are exceptions to this rule and are a blessing to Christians who love rap.
In Lecrae's work you can hear a man who just as easily could be playing on the other side, so to speak. The man is in touch
with his carnal side, in that he is aware of his weakness and his need of Christ. Many times he illustrates this by
contrasting a life in the streets with a life of a Christian and it's challenges. He also has music that pulls a powerful convicting witness.
On his previous album the song "Take Me As I Am" was one such tune. On his new album Lecrae brings the heat of conviction in the songs "Prayin' For You," "Death Story," and "Nobody." These songs are powerful and are part of a take no prisoners ministry that the man presents.
For those who are unfamiliar with Lecrae his musical style is probably closest to a Dirty South style including Houston and
Memphis. The only weakness, in fact, of this album is that while the beats are good (with CMRs stable of producers) there is not necessarily a consistancy of style that runs through the album as you might find with a Dr. Dre album for example. The
CMR producers do not seem to have a definative style that is recognizable. This is not bad, just an observation, and really
it's nit-picking considering the quality of this record.
Now for a quick rundown of each song (NOTE: any song comparisons aren't meant to imply that the beats are copped or the music is derivative, only to give an idea of the mood):
1. After the Music Stops - A good beat with distorted guitars (think Eminem's "Lose Yourself") as the man raps about our level of commitment of Chritians to go beyond listening to teaching. Very strong. "Will you open your bible's / After the music stops?" BEAT: 3/5 LYRICS: 4/5
2. Jesus Muzik - Real shades of 3-6-Mafia on the beat. A "day in the life" type song about listening to music that glorifies God. Real head bobbing. "Riding with my top down / Listenin to this Jesus Music." BEAT: 4/5 LYRICS: 4/5
3. I Did It For You - This beat sounds very similar to something off of a GAME album, specifically "Hate it Or Love it." The beat has that classic soul/Shaft feel. A testimony song. It focuses on the fact that we are all sinners and in need of God's redemption. "I wish someone had told me then / what it meant to know Christ and be born again." Powerful. BEAT: 4/5 LYRICS: 5/5
4. The Truth - Beat is similar to another Crae song "Into Silence" from his first album. The Gospel set to a hip beat. All about representing Jesus in our lives. "Every breath we breath outside of heaven is a blessing ya'll." BEAT: 4/5 LYRICS: 5/5
5. Run - This beat is one of those dancehall beats that make its way into a rap album every now and again. The beat is good. The sound is similar to No Doubt's "Hey Baby" and the song is about "running the good race" from Corinthians. It's great with one exception. The hook is done by someone who is trying to do that "rude bwoy" accent and it sounds HORRIBLE. Makes me want to stab my ears. If you take out the hook of this song it's another solid track about working for God and not the world. I'm torn on this one. BEAT: 3/5 LYRICS: 4/5 -1 for that irritating guy on the hook.
6. Send Me - another great beat, one of the best on the album. The song is about the need for missions and witness in the world and whether or not we're willing to leave our comfort zones to minister to those who haven't had the opportunity to hear of Jesus, especially in places where it might be dangerous (like China). Great club/call response hook "Send Me, I'll Go, lemme go, lemme go" BEAT: 5/5 LYRICS: 5/5
7. It's Your World - Could be a NAS/Jay-Z style beat. Praising Jesus as creator and ruler of the world and riffing on the awesome nature of creation. "It's Your World, It belongs to you, Christ Jesus" BEAT: 4/5 LYRICS: 4/5
8. Grateful - Not really a frame of reference comes to mind here, but it's slick on the beat. A beautiful song of thanksgiving. "I'm thankful for all that you are to me." BEAT: 4/5 LYRICS: 5/5
9. King Intro - An acapella rap about Christ's kingship in world and spirit. Under a minute but a tight little riff. "I know some of you dudes may cruise a 4Runner / but Christ had a dude to use as a Forerunner" BEAT: N/A LYRICS: 5/5
10. King - Jay-Z type, kind of a hammering beat. This ditty is about how Christ is the only king and everyone else claiming to be king of anything is just a pretender to the throne. Features FLAME. "Like kids playing in their daddy's clothes while he's gone / But the clothes don't fit and daddy's coming home." BEAT: 3/5 LYRICS: 4/5
11. Invisible - Another East Coast style beat. A song about touching something beyond the self when worshipping God and living a life like Christ until it's him that people see and not us. It's not filler, but I wasn't really feeling it. BEAT: 3/5 LYRICS: 3/5
12. Get Low - Similar to Flame's beat from "Sola Scriptura" with a bit of guitar in it. A great song about humility. "Get low, this aint one of those nasty flows/ I'm talking about humbling yourself before the Lord." BEAT: 4/5 LYRICS: 5/5
13. Praying For You - Kanye wishes he had this beat ;). A song about praying for someone with their daily struggles to live a Godly life. Sometimes people can have the best of circumstances and live an outwardly Godly life, but still struggle internally. Beautiful song about the struggle. BEAT: 4/5 LYRICS 6/5
14. Nobody - This beat feels a bit Wu-Tang (Iron Flag era). The song is about all the things that people try to substitute for a
relationship with God. "You can't run no more / Feel like something wrong in your soul." A soul cousin to "Take Me As I Am." Good but not great. BEAT: 4/5 LYRICS: 4/5
15. Death Story - Ouch. This is a great hard narrative about a man on his death bed struggling with a decision for Christ. Great discussion starter. This song is on a level with Ice Cube's "Dead On Arrival" and DMX's "Damien." A song about an
internal struggle and the inevitability of death. Absolutely chilling, the atmosphere is claustrophobic. Possibly the best track on the CD. The power to convict is deep. BEAT: 4/5 LYRICS: 6/5
16. Unashamed - Another club beat, makes you want to bob your head, kind of a Lil Jon vibe. About being honest and unashamed of living for the Gospel of Christ. Powerful song about representing the kingdom. AMEN. "All they rhyme is about is guns, money, sex and drugs / 80% of these dudes is fictional thugs." BEAT: 4/5 LYRICS: 4/5
17. El Shaddai - Not a rap tune. The tune is artist CAM singing with an acoustic guitar. He waxes about many of the names of God. El Shaddai, and many I can't spell come in here. Beautiful little praise song "Father, I worship you." BEAT: N/A LYRICS: 5/5
The strength of Lecrae's album, along with all his CMR alumni, is and has always been their willingness to express their
feelings about Christ without the need to water down the message. These guys don't have to hide behind clever wordplay and multiple meanings in their lyrics. These are Christian artists with an unashamed Christian message. The power of Christ crucified is on display and the beauty and power of the message is made apparent on every track. That's why the
inconsistant beats aren't a problem. These guys could slap the back of a phone book and the message would carry on.
If you love Christ and love rap, there is no reason not to get this album. The beats are diverse, the lyrics are alltogether top notch and on the level with anything in the secular (not to mention the Christian) world.
If you have non-christian friends who like rap, Crae can be a great introductory and evangelistic tool. The message is
powerful and straightforward and Lecrae jumps above his already spectacular solo debut. If he continues like this he will
easily become my favorite rapper (Christian or otherwise).
God Bless,

Oh Gravity. ReviewI'm an older (almost, gulp, 40) pop, indie, alternative music fan who came across a great pop song on the radio titled "Stars." Bought it on iTunes, enjoyed it. By this band called "Switchfoot."
I recently saw a new album by Switchfoot on Amazon (released on my birthday, Dec. 26th!) and thought, what the heck, let's see if there are any good "Stars"-like songs on it. Digressing, I appreciate solid albums (yeah, 10-12 songs long) that don't force you to skip songs and provide an emotional ride (haven't had many of those since the peak of U2, R.E.M., Coldplay, Radiohead, etc.). To say the new Switchfoot album was a complete surprise is the understatement of the decade. And then I found out they were a "Christian" band (I love labels) and I was like, really? Don't care one way or the other, because this is an awesome rock/pop whatever-you-want-to-label-it album.
Partial credit must go to Steve Lillywhite - he has this knack of getting the most pop (yeah, I like pop songs - sue me) out of rock bands, while keeping the emotional strengths and solid musicianship. Look at Dave Matthews Band - their first three albums (love em or hate em) are incredible pop rock albums with emotion to boot. Nothing they have done since ditching Mr. Lillywhite have been nearly as good. So, even though I have not heard Switchfoot's catalog, I must give credit in part to Mr. Lillywhite for the incredibly pleasant surprise that is "Oh! Gravity."
Enough blathering - every song has something interesting about it, whether it be soaring guitars (the build up to and chorus of "Head Over Heels"), awesome singing (screaming in "Oh! Gravity" and "Awakening"), heartfelt emotion ("Head Over Heels" and "Yesterdays"), kick-a** rhythms (the whole album) and interesting musical touches throughout ("Dirty Second Hands" "Faust" and my favorite, "4:12"). The lyrics and emotion feel honest, not forced, and definitely provide some solid messages for this time (excess - bad, having a heart - good). And while its sounds like a mid-90's song by Gutterball (look it up), "Amatuer Lovers" rocks out and places a giddy smile on my face every time I hear it.
I highly recommend this album - you may not rate every song a five out of five, but you have to appreciate a rock band that can do a lot of different things interestingly and well without pretention and with passion. Congratulations to Switchfoot - you have a hard core new fan. I can only imagine how fun it would be to hear these songs live...
Oh Gravity. OverviewThe highly anticipated sixth album from Switchfoot, contains 12 new tracks written by the band an produced by Tim Palmer (Tin Machine, Pearl Jam, The Cure, Mother Love Bone, U2) & Switchfoot with Grammy winning executive producer Steve Lillywhite. The new album expands Switchffot's sonic palette while at the same time dealing with social issues on songs like the alt-country blues of 'Dirty Second Hands,' in which Jon Foreman sings of the dehumanization that comes with technology.Other politically motivated tracks include 'Oh! Gravity' the title track's generational appeal for love, peace and understanding, 'American Dram,' with its biting truth, 'Awakening,' about trying to recover the innocence of a child in the midst of an ever harsher reality, the sawing alt-country of 'Head Over Heels,' the exotic instrumentation and Middle Eastern flavor of 'Circles,' the REM-esque pulse of '4:12', the lush Brit-pop melodies of 'Yesterdays,' the Echo and the Bunnymen/Smiths influenced 'Burn Out Bright' and Motown sound of 'Amateur Lovers.'

Dwell ReviewExcellent album. Very solid from start to finish and then when you are done listening, you can become part of the experience through the toolbox DVD. I recommend it highly for worship leaders who are looking for new songs, or just those who are looking for God's presence to come dwell in their hearts. The songs touched me, especially "Waiting on You Again" and "So in Need." Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.Dwell Overview

Beauty Will Rise ReviewI bought this album for my wife's birthday. As someone who has struggled with my faith for many years I have been quite cynical towards Christian music. I have often said that it's a watered down version of secular music with a one-dimensional theme. "If you've heard one contemporary Christian song, you've heard them all".
However, I was interested to listen to this album after hearing about the circumstances surrounding it. Being a father of two myself, I can't imagine going through what SCC has endured. I wanted to see how a person could craft songs around such a personal experience.
What I heard was nothing short of a true artistic masterpiece. Every time you listen to this album you find a new message to receive. On one hand it can be overwhelmingly depressing and it is very difficult to listen to without tearing up. And yet on the other hand it is one of the most truly inspirational collections of music I've ever heard. And like all great art not only does it contain several layers of depth, it only gets better with time.
As I said before, I struggle with the Christian faith I was raised under. I have questioned God's existence and even dismissed all religion as an easy way to explain complicated truths. But one thing I realized after hearing this album is that it's easy for a person to turn away from their faith when the unspeakable happens. And no one would blame a person for doing so. But it takes great strength to publicly affirm your faith in the face of such adversity. I have seen no better vehicle of ministry in recent years than this album. It has compelled a guy like me to write a review of a "Christian" album. Unfortunately I think the Christian label will prevent it from receiving the wide exposure that it should get. I think everybody has something to gain by giving "Beauty Will Rise" a listen.

Counting Stars ReviewPrime Cuts: Many Roads, Fool with a Fancy Guitar, The Magic Hour
"If you step inside this great glass elevator it will take us up above the city lights" are the first words of invitation Peterson cordially issues at the start of this disc. "Counting Stars" is a ruminative sonic journey whereby Peterson offers us to take us to the top of life's tower and offers us a panoramic view of life. From the top, we are able to make sense of the intricacies of life and the things that matter to us and God. It's also from such height we are able to count the stars of God's blessings as Abraham did all those years ago in the Bible. And what makes this pilgrimage such an endearing one is that Peterson is a writer of the heart. With carefully crafted narratives, well-chosen images and scripturally informed messages, Peterson is never a soporific tour guide. This may also be attributive to the fact that Peterson is more than just a Contemporary Christian artist he's also a Christian writer of children and young adult books. Even the song titles like "The Magic Hour," "Fool with a Fancy Guitar" and "Dancing in the Minefields" are rifle with a C. S. Lewis-esque intrigue that makes you want to listen to them.
Sonically, Peterson holds his very own well. Instead of giving in to the cookie cutter and sounding like the next Steven Curtis Chapman or Caedmon's Call, Peterson has carved out his own niche. Unbounded by convention, Peterson would often experiment with rustic instruments (like the banjo) to the lush arrangements of strings. Yet, most of the time, he keeps things simple with a folk and country slant to most of the songs' execution. And such simplicity in arrangements in no ways dilutes the powerful messages of the songs. Case in point is the piano-led ballad "Many Roads." "Many Roads" is a fine illustration of Romans 8:28 whereby Peterson sings about how the various roads of our lives are not serendipitous but they are God-ordained. Gentle and soothing to the soul is "The Magic Hour" a worship hymn to God's creativity in creation packed with picturesque lyrics that is just adoringly sweet.
While many contemporary Christian artists are reticent to speak boldly about Scriptural truths, Peterson knows no such restraints. "In the Night" strings together the stories of the Bible whereby God interceded in the midst of the most trying times with the song culminating in the Cross. This is a magnificent epic that sums up the consistency of God's sovereignty perfectly. Also, affective is the autobiographical "Fool with a Fancy Guitar"--here Peterson explains that without Christ empowering all he does, he's just a "fool with a fancy guitar." While the guitar-driven anthemic "The Reckoning" (though quite weak in its melody) is heart's cry to Christ's second coming in the face of suffering.
Peterson has not cast his sight so lofty that he does not deal with everyday relationships. The ethereal "Dancing in the Minefields" addresses the need to persevere in the midst of the ups and downs of a marital relationship. On the other hand, the average sounding "Planting Trees" speaks of the need to make a difference by investing in our people's lives. Perhaps, the major weakness of this CD is that Peterson has fallen into the same trap as many singer-songwriters. Some of the songs suffer from a lack of identity melodically, so a few songs tend to flow into each other. Other than this quibble, "Counting Stars" is a worshipful sonic experience that will get us to count the stars of God's blessings with repeated listening.

Church Music ReviewDavid Crowder*Band, the Dove Award-winning six-piece band, crafts compelling, inimitably progressive electronic rock. They are back with their new release "Church Music" arguably their most innovative effort to date. Packed full with 17 full tracks, "It's our stimulus package," the frontman player jokes. "We're doing our part." The band hopes this album serves as a reminder of the continual evolvement of music within the Church.
One of David's favorite selections from "Church Music" is "God Almighty, None Compares," because he loves "the guitar harmony...the guitarmony, if you will, and shredding is involved, which always makes me smile." The band is rounded out by guitarists Jack Parker and Mark Waldorp , bassist Mike Dodson, drummer Jeremy Bush and electronic violinist Mike Hogan. For the epic "Eastern Hymn," which is the rest of the band's favorite song on the disc, David commissioned the translation of an ancient Chinese prayer book which he'd found last summer while the band was on the Passion World Tour, and portions of the translated tome appear in the song's chorus.
The album opens with "Phos Hilaron (Hail Gladdening Light)", which sets the tone for this excellent album, my top album of 2009 and my favorite overall album by this amazing band. If you liked "Illuminate", "A Collision" and "Remedy", then "Church Music" is for you. The album blends previous musical and lyrical styles with some new ethereal and ambient songs and an incredible cover of my favorite song of the year, "How He Loves". To add to the uniqueness of the album, the 17 songs on the album play continuously from beginning to end with one song blending into the next. In order to accomplish this, the band poured an immense amount of work into the process, sequencing the tracks before anything had been recorded so keys and tempos could be finalized. The result: 73 full minutes of music. "Alleluia Sing" is next and has that signature David Crowder*Band praise and worship style similar to "Open Skies". "The Nearness" and "Shadows" bring back the electronic feel from "Remedy" like "Everything Glorious" and "Can You Feel It?". "Eastern Hymn" is truly epic and flows beautifully into the next few tracks "SMS (Shine)", "The Veil" and "We Are Loved". This section reminded me of the brilliant section of "A Collision" from "Do Not Move" to "Our Happy Home".
The band even tackles a cover on the disc that has to be heard to be believed: Flyleaf's "All Around Me." As if the album wasn't impressive already, David Crowder*Band's beautiful cover of "How He Loves", originally written and recorded by John Mark McMillan, is spectacular. The band finds a unique balance of capturing the sweet lyrical moments of the song but continually crescendos the intensity of the song and the message as the simple chorus builds over and over again. The genuine sound of the song reminds us of the simplicity yet magnanimity of God's love for us. "Can I Lie Here" and "Birmingham (We Are Safe)" bridge to the final section of the album in the style of "...neverending..." and "Rain Down" before the title track "Church Music (Dance)", one of the most fun tracks on the album. I can't wait to see this song performed live as it has an electronic feel that will remind you of a 1970's disco. The album closes with an amazing section from the unashamed praise of "What A Miracle", and "Oh Happiness", which reminded me of "We Win!", the guitar-shredding of "God Almighty, None Compares" and the epic closer "In The End (O Resplendent Light)".
This is my favorite overall album by David Crowder*Band and my top album of 2009. For me, this is truly a 5 star album! My favorite songs are "Alleluia Sing", "The Nearness", "Eastern Hymn", "All Around Me", "Church Music (Dance)", "God Almighty, None Compares" and my song of the year "How He Loves".Church Music Overview

Any Newsboys fan could tell you, if you turned on your radio to any good christian station, and you heard one of the songs off this CD, even if you had never heard it before, you would know it was the Newsboys. They have a totally unique style, I've never heard it in any other band. Their music isn't rock AND pop, its both,so mixed together that it really become's its own genre. All that to say that this CD probably is their best one yet. Only for true Newsboys fans. In this CD they stay 100% true to their "it could only be the Newsboys" style. Don't be a wimp and shy away from buying this CD without listning to it first. Who knows? Where Do We Go From Here Review4 stars for this CD is almost an injustice. It's just that I only give 5 stars when EVERY song on a CD is "unskipable". There are 12 songs on this CD, and only 2 (maybe 3) are skipable. The rest are hard rock jewels.
These guys kick it hard. If you like the way Dan Donagan (guitar) and Mike Wengren (drums) work together in Disturbed, you'll love this disk. In Pillar, Noah Henson (guitar) and Lester Estelle (drums) work in the same way. This rarity of guitarists and drummers synchronizing is difficult to explain for non-musicians...so I won't get into it too deeply. I will say that this combination of hard rock guitarists and drummers playing off each other makes a huge difference than when the drummer and the bass player are simply keeping the background time in most rock bands.
Rob Beckley's singing in Pillar is clear and you can understand every word. No angry growling (think Slipknot and the like)
through the songs. Pillar's songs on this disk have those fist pumping anthem style choruses that you find yourself singing along to on the first listen. And if you favor plain old head banging over singing along, you're in luck. This CD will have your stomping feet competing with your banging head all the way through...almost every song.
Everybody With Your Fist Raised High Let Me Hear Your Battle Cry for Pillar's head bobbin', melodic, kick-ass hard rock sophomore effort, "Where Do We Go From Here". This band is labeled a Christian Rock group; and, hey, that's cool. Praise God! But here's a Dirty Little Secret: Ozzy and any other rockers that might think you need to have a pentagram on the CD cover to signify that the disk rocks would probably be proud of these guys. So if you're looking for a hard rock CD to bang your head to, hit the buy button now. This CD does indeed rock.

Somewhere Down the Road ReviewAmy Grant returns with Somewhere Down The Road, a unique album full of brand new songs, previously unreleased songs, re-recordings of classics, and rounded out with 4 of her best loved story-songs. I've been listening to Amy Grant for over 25 years as I first heard "El-Shaddai," "Thy Word" and "Tennessee Christmas" when I was in high school in 1985. Like many avid Christian music collectors, I agree that 1988's Lead Me On was one of the most influential albums in the history of Christian music. Amy truly paved the way for all female artists and today I hear her influence in some of my favorite artists including Sara Groves and Bethany Dillon, who released two of my top 10 albums of 2009. So, where does that put Amy today in 2010? That's the main question I've been asking myself as I've been thoroughly enjoying her first new album since 2003's Simple Things.
For me, the beginning of the album completely reminds me why I'm such a long-time fan of Amy's music, as first song and single "Better Than A Hallelujah" addresses the topic of being honest with yourself & God. Her vocals are still stellar and the poignant message behind this song has me hooked again, similar to Amy's classic songs "Lead Me On" and "Saved By Love," both in catchiness and transparency. Next song "Overnight" really grabbed me as Amy's vocals are complemented by her first ever duet with her 17 year old daughter Sarah Chapman. The song is about learning to wait for answers to questions and is a wonderful song with great relevance in passing down advice from mother to daughter. Having 3 young daughters myself, who all love Amy's music, this is a great new song that really moves me.
There are a few previously recorded songs including "Every Road," "Somewhere Down The Road," MercyMe's "Imagine" and a new recording of the classic "Arms Of Love." All of the songs fit seamlessly into the fabric of the overall album, which has a folk music feel and is very enjoyable. If you're looking for circa 1991's Heart In Motion type songs like "Baby Baby" or "Every Heartbeat," you won't find them here.
The rest of the album includes some other new songs, highlighted by "Unafraid," which may be my favorite overall new song as Amy sings about her own children and her mother with a great reminder that "love can make, love will make, make you unafraid." It is a gorgeous song and really sets the tone for the album. The remaining new songs include "Hard Times," "Find What You're Looking For," written for Mary Elizabeth Chapman, the grandmother of Amy's 3 oldest children and "Third World Woman." Previously unreleased "What Is The Chance of That" and "Come Into My World," which is about learning to listen to people before `fixing' them, also fit nicely into the overall theme of the album: stories & journeys. Amy has always been a great storyteller and many of her most impactful songs have come from her own journey as she sings about the honesty of life, its joys and struggles, and ultimately the hope she has found in faith and love.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
I truly enjoy every song on the album, especially new recordings "Better Than A Hallelujah," "Overnight," "Unafraid" and "Come Into My World." If you were fond of Amy's 1997 recording Behind The Eyes, one of my all-time favorite albums, then you will certainly want to listen to Somewhere Down The Road. For me, the way that Amy's albums all reflect her stage in life is what continues to further establish her all-time legacy which includes over 25 million album sales, an incredible feat in any genre.Somewhere Down the Road Overview

Hello Hurricane ReviewHello Hurricane, Switchfoot's first studio album since 2006's Oh! Gravity, which debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200, acknowledges life's storms while managing to find an element of hope in them. The band tracked more than 80 songs at its self-built home studio before narrowing it down to the 12 that appear on the new album. Hello Hurricane is the group's seventh full-length album and its first on Atlantic Records. Switchfoot is comprised of Jon Foreman (vocals/guitar), Tim Foreman (bass), Chad Butler (drums), Jerome Fontamillas (keys/guitar) and Drew Shirley (guitar).
The album grabbed my attention right from the opening notes of "Needle and Haystack Life", which will thrill long-time Switchfoot fans, and probably win them new fans with the U2-esque epic feel and extremely catchy music and lyrics. This is one of those albums that is meant to be experienced in the order it is arranged as lead single "Mess of Me" switches gears musically and brings a new grunge-type sound with the passionate lyrics "I wanna spend the rest of my life alive!". My favorite new Switchfoot song is next, "Your Love Is A Song" in the style of "On Fire" from The Beautiful Letdown. I've enjoyed this band since New Way To Be Human released in 1999 and Hello Hurricane truly brings a great mixture sonically and stylistically that fans of rock anthems, alt-rock and grunge-rock will enjoy. "The Sound" will also have you shouting along with Jon, whose vocals have never sounded better and musically this song reminded me of "Stars" and "We Are One Tonight" from Nothing Is Sound, my previous favorite Switchfoot album. There is little that reminds me of Oh! Gravity, other than maybe the up tempo but more refined sounding rock songs that perfect the sound introduced with the title track and "Awakening".
Some other highlights for me come towards the end of the album, which cools down with "Always", a truly inspirational song in the style of "Twenty-Four" with this great bridge: "Hallelujah!, I'm caving in, Hallelujah! I'm in love again, Hallelujah!, I'm a wretched man, Hallelujah!, every breath is a second chance". "Always" transitions beautifully to "Bullet Soul", another Switchfoot anthem which will have you moving with a great guitar riff and a call to action "are you ready to go?". As if the album didn't have enough hooks, my next favorite track comes next with the ballad "Yet" a gorgeous contemplative song with a sincere chorus: "I'll sing until my heart caves in, no, you haven't lost me yet".
I find myself singing at the top of my lungs with each song and "Your Love Is A Song" is one of my top 20 songs of the year. For me, Hello Hurricane is now the best overall album by Switchfoot and is one of my top 5 albums of 2009. The standout songs are "Needle and Haystack Life", "Mess of Me", "Your Love Is A Song", "The Sound", "Always", "Bullet Soul" and "Yet".Hello Hurricane Overview

The Christmas Sessions ReviewMany artists change their signature sound when releasing a Christmas album, going for the more traditional sounds of 40 years ago. These CD's are instant classics that feel like old friends the first time they are spun.
Other artists decide to release Christmas CD's that stick with their normal sound, whatever that may be. These projects take a few years to grow on the listener, but they often become favorites because they offer something different from everything else. This CD falls into the second category.
Mercy Me has made a name for itself in the Christian music industry with three highly successful projects already under their belt. While I wouldn't exactly classify their sound as straight rock, they are certainly rockier then many adult contemporary artists they are often classified with. They take their guitar driven music and wrap it around some Christmas classics. The result is unsurprisingly great.
Eleven of the twelve tracks on the CD are well known standby songs like "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear," "Winter Wonderland/White Christmas," "Drummer Boy," or "O Holy Night." Each track features drums and guitar heavily. For example, you can really hear the drum and bass on "O Holy Night." It's an arrangement that I wouldn't have thought of, but it works.
Each of these songs is sped up, some more then others, from what you are used to. You might not be able to sing along the first time through, but by the second or third you will hit all the notes along with them since they do stick with the original melody. Occasionally, the also through in new words, as in "Gloria." And for those wondering, this isn't a new take on Michael W. Smith's classic reworking, but an arrangement that sticks much closer to the original carol.
There are a couple tracks that don't work as well. "Christmas Time is Here" isn't a fast song. Of course, it's also ruined by the fact that someone with a good voice is singing it. I will forever only love the version from the Charlie Brown special. "Silent Night" becomes a country church version that would have fit on lead singer Bart Millard's recent hymns project. I don't care for the arrangement, but those who enjoy upbeat country will.
My biggest disappointment is the lack of original songs. The final track, "Josephs' Lullaby" is the only new song. Appropriately enough, it is the slowest track here. This piano driven ballad is a tender take on what Joseph might have sang to Jesus that first Christmas night asking for a good night sleep before the reality of saving the world becomes His burden.
It will be a couple years before this CD is one I reach for at the start of the Christmas season. But it will be one that gets lots of play this year and in years to come. The Christmas Sessions OverviewOne of christian music's most loved and best selling bands delivers their first Christmas album. Featuring classic titles and contemporary yet recognizable melodies, MercyMe puts their stamp on your Christmas favorites. Includes the songs 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen', 'Silent Night', 'White Christmas' and 'Winter Wonderland'. Epic. 2005.

City on a Hill: It's Christmas Time ReviewCity on the Hill takes its trademark worship focus and applies it to Christmas. The result is a must buy.
The strength of this project is its new songs. Five of the six are absolute winners bringing a truly new spirit of worship to the holiday season. My favorites (and it's hard to choose) are "Child of Love," a lullaby for Mary that first Christmas night, and "Bethlehem Town" which juxtaposes the joy of Christ's birth with the pain and horror of his death. I always enjoy songs that remind us of why He ultimately came. Ironically enough, it's the title song that I don't especially like. It just seems so much less inspired then the others.
The other half of the songs on the CD are traditional Christmas carols that focus on what Christmas really means. I especially enjoyed Out of Eden's take on "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and the lesser recorded "In the Bleak Midwinter." And I don't know if I've yet heard a recording of "O Holy Night" that I didn't like.
My biggest problem with this CD is that, since most of the new songs are presented first, it doesn't seem that Christmassy to me right away. However, I love it so much, I think I'll be listening to it a lot at Christmas every year, so that won't last more then another year or two. This CD is destined to become a classic.City on a Hill: It's Christmas Time Overview

Beautiful Things ReviewThe music industry of today thrives on a lack of originality. There are particular types of sound that sell, so if an artist can pull off that sound decently enough, throw in enough mindlessly catchy beats, and overproduce it, it's quite possible that it could be a #1 hit. I've even noticed something similar to this in the "Christian music industry." So it is refreshing indeed when a band like Gungor releases an album like Beautiful Things, where creativity, diversity, excellent lyrics, and sheer talent abound, and it's for that reason that Beautiful Things is quite possibly one of the finest works ever to hit the world of "Christian music."
Beautiful Things begins with the amazing "Dry Bones," a song that starts off softly with just an acoustic guitar and a piano, but eventually explodes into a frenzy of electric guitars and soaring vocals crying out to Jesus for restoration ("Jesus, you're the one who saves us/ constantly creates us into something new/ Jesus, surely you will find us/ surely our Messiah will make all things new.") It's a powerful and memorable opener, and Gungor's desperate cries are quickly answered in the title track that follows. "Beautiful Things" is a worshipful song that, instead of crying out for Jesus to bring life, acknowledges that He does indeed, "Make beautiful things out of the dust." It's a soft and worshipful track that is easily an album highlight if not the best track on the album, as it reflects on the creative and restoring power of God. These first two tracks set the tone for the album lyrically by setting the focus on God making things new, and they powerfully introduce what is already shaping up to be a phenomenal album.
Gungor shifts to hope for God's future restoration in "Brighter Day," the album's biggest rocker, while also acknowledging the present working of God's kingdom in our hearts ("Let it come/ love is here and love is coming/ heaven is breaking open." The rocking guitars and powerful vocals carry this song through as one of the most fun songs on the album. "Heaven" follows and, though it is short on lyrics, acknowledges, "Heaven is comin' down to the world." It's an all-out gospel-style track highlighted by guest vocals (and, I assume, songwriting) by Israel Houghton. It's an outrageously catchy and fun song, though it is probably among my least favorites on the album as it feels a little out of place and, as I already mentioned, is short on lyrical content.
As "Heaven" winds down, the album shifts gears with the quiet and beautiful "You Have Me." The lead is given to a finger picking banjo part, and although it is practically the only instrument used for most of the song, it is a perfect fit to the soft vocals and worshipful lyrics, which recall how God has sought after the singer, and reveal the appropriate response to the saving power of God ("You have me/ You have my heart completely.") "Cannot Keep You" comes next with another soft and worshipful tune, this time giving more emphasis to the piano and acoustic guitar. This time the focus is on the way we tend to try and keep God contained in virtually anything and make these things idols ("We cannot keep you in a church/ we cannot keep you in a Bible/ or it's just another idol to box you in... we've worshiped all our idols/ we want all that to end"), but the chorus reminds us that there is none like the Lord with the wonderful lyrics, "Who is like the Lord?/ the Maker of the heavens/ who dwells with the poor/ He lifts them from the ashes/ and seats them among princes/ who is like the Lord?" Though it took longer to grow on me than some of the other tracks on the album, I have to say "Cannot Keep You" is among Gungor's best recordings to date.
A delightful toy piano then leads into "The Earth Is Yours," which is another instant highlight. It is a simple but beautiful worship song that poetically describes creation giving glory to the Creator and singing, "Holy, holy Lord/ the earth is Yours," with a quiet but absolutely wonderful sound. Even after so many fantastic songs, "The Earth Is Yours" sounds excellent and fresh... but half of the album is still left. "Call Me Out" follows with a delightfully unique sound driven by drums, piano, and the banjo again, and later the song moves into a chorus full of pounding electric guitars, making a surprisingly diverse and irresistibly catchy array of sound and another fantastic track.
A softer tone is hit again as the album starts to wind down, but the quality doesn't let up much, if at all. "Please Be My Strength" isn't the most interesting song musically, but some skillful acoustic guitar work carries the lyrics that embody a state of knowing that you can't do anything on your own, and you need to rely on God's strength. "Higher" might be the mellowest song on the entire record, but it's also one of the most worshipful as Gungor sings, "Your name is sweeter than the rain/ that falls upon the face of dry and weary lands... Your name be praised/ and be lifted higher." The sincere desire for God to be glorified is what makes "Higher" special. Next, "Late Have I Loved You" seems to wonder why anyone would ever do anything with God but run to Him. It is another quiet and touching song to add to the list.
The quiet nature of the previous three songs then gives way to the joyfully upbeat "People Of God," which simply calls out, "People of God, rise up/ rise up and shine God's love/ we are the light of the world," and reminds us, "if we don't have love, we're left with nothing." The nine-minute "We Will Run" closes off the album beautifully by reminding the listener to run to God to seek out the restoration that so many of the preceding songs sang about ("We will run to You/ turning from our sin we return to You/ Father, heal Your world, make all things new." Lisa Gungor's voice finally shares the lead with Michael's in this beautiful closer, and about halfway through the track's running time, a peaceful piano-led instrumental section brings the phenomenal record to a close, giving the listener a few minutes to reflect on the amazing music and lyrics they heard in the album's running time of nearly an hour.
I think it would be very difficult to dislike Gungor's masterpiece Beautiful Things. Musically it's about as fun, beautiful, and diverse as it can be with the band still feeling right at home on every song, and the lyrics are nicely worded and constantly focused on the Lord. Even after a few months of owning it, I'm still excited about how fantastic it is. I have no higher recommendation in the entire music industry when it comes to an album that's so musically creative and lyrically rock solid. Gungor has achieved true excellence with this record, and it would be a shame for anyone to miss it.Beautiful Things Overview

Move ReviewThird Day delivers its soul-stirring 11th studio album, MOVE, showcasing members Mac Powell, Mark Lee, Tai Anderson and David Carr at their melodic and lyrical best, peering insightfully at life within the church as well as pointedly seeking to understand the needs and questions of those without faith. It's an often difficult balance to achieve, but Third Day succeeds in speaking candidly and hopefully to listeners of every stripe, challenging each not just to a place of faith - but a place of faith in action. Third Day released their debut/self-titled album back in 1995. Since that release they have become on of the biggest names in the Christian music industry. Fans flocked to their 1999 release Time and the 2000 worship release, Offerings. Third Day's last album Revelation was recently certified Gold and is a stellar album with hit songs "Call My Name," "Revelation" and "Born Again."
The project leads with the first single "Lift Up Your Face," which features The Blind Boys of Alabama. Mac Powell, the band's charismatic lead vocalist, explains, "The country is going through hard times, and there are doubts and insecurity. The message of "Lift Up Your Face" is our message of encouragement - not just to listeners though--to us as well. It's a message we all need to hear and I think that really sums up a lot of what we were going for with this record." Musically, MOVE delivers songs that are rootsy, soulful and riveting, taking full advantage of Third Day's longstanding rock influence. Yet the sound retains an edgy authenticity that's incredibly timely as heard in the raw and addictive, "Make Your Move." Additional highlight tracks include the worshipful "Children of God," "Gone," "Surrender" and "Follow Me There." Each song is lyrically inspiring with hints at Third Day's southern roots.
"Trust In Jesus" is my favorite song on the album. One of my favorite aspects of Third Day's music is how they tend to have very spiritual lyrics. This song declares boldly what it means to be a follower of Jesus and is a thesis statement of faith. I love how the first four songs build to this declaration that "one of these days we all will stand before the Lord, and give a reason for everything we've done...and what I've done is trust in Jesus, my Great Deliverer, my Strong Defender, the Son of God, I trust in Jesus, Blessed Redeemer, my Lord forever, the Holy One, What are you gonna do when your time is come and your life is done, what are you gonna say at the judgment throne, I already know, the only thing that I can say...I trust in Jesus." I get goose bumps when I listen to this amazing song and sing along at the top of my lungs. The tempo slows down for the rest of the album and includes more bold testimony with the great song "What Have You Got To Lose" and the closing song "Don't Give Up Hope."
I recently listened to every song ever released by Third Day to determine where to rank this album among Third Day's incredibly impressive catalog of albums and songs. For me, MOVE is the most impressive Third Day album since their debut album and Time. MOVE has some of Third Day's best "southern" rock songs ever in "Surrender" and "Make Your Move." From a worship standpoint, "Children of God" and "Trust In Jesus" are incredible anthems of faith. Those four stand-out songs are among my all-time favorite songs by Third Day along with "Thief," "I've Always Loved You," "Your Love Oh Lord," "You Are Mine," "Revelation" and "Offering."
CLOSING THOUGHTS
I am amazed by this Third Day record. I'm so glad they went back to their roots. I liked Revelation and the cool rock songs, but I became a "Gomer" with the southern gospel-rock and passion of songs like "Thief," "Love Song" and "Forever." If you are a long-time fan of Third Day, be very excited about MOVE. If you became a fan with Offerings or Revelation here's your chance to learn what has made Third Day the premier rock band in all of Christian music. The music is catchy, and every song rocks. For me, what makes this album so special is the unashamed Gospel message and Mac Powell's vocals have never been more passionate. MOVE gets 5 stars from this writer.Move Overview

Hundred More Years ReviewChristian music artist Francesca Battistelli has had a fun, fast paced ride on life's roller coaster the last few years. Her debut music album, My Paper Heart was a major hit.She was awarded the 2010 GMA Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year. She's got married and this past September gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Matthew Elijah Goodwin. She's on top of the world and is ready for a second album entitled, Hundred More Years. The first single from this album, "This Is The Stuff," was released to Christian radio in January. In traditional Francesca Battistelli style, she tells it just how it is and all the things that drive her crazy. The main message of the song, despite all the little things that drive us all crazy, is to remember we are blessed. Francesca writes and sings about relatable subjects and her lyrics and melodies are completely infectious. Right from the opening notes, I knew I was in for a treat and musically this album is completely brilliant. The mandolin part reminds me of "Hey Soul Sister" by Train and "The Outsiders" by NEEDTOBREATHE. The bridge of "This Is The Stuff" also summarizes my prayer as a Christian: "To break me of impatience, Conquer my frustrations, I've got a new appreciation, It's not the end of the world..." Amen. "Constant" and "You Never Are" are also catchy pop songs. Every song includes at least one lyrical phrase that completely hits me where I am. "Constant" is about God's love and Francesca sings "Okay I really don't like change but I can't stop it, I'm moving forward with the promise, You are the anchor for my soul, That's all I need to know."

"Angel By Your Side" is a `beautiful, beautiful' ballad with a catchy guitar part and features Francesca's gorgeous vocals. The balance of upbeat songs and ballads is another highlight as the songs flow perfectly together to create one of those unique musical experiences that makes this a stellar album. "Motion Of Mercy" grabs me with Francesca's sincere prayer, "God give me strength to give something for nothing, I wanna be a glimpse of the Kingdom that's coming soon." "Emily (It's Love)" features Dave Barnes and is destined to be a hit song, perhaps on mainstream radio. One argument Christians may make about this album is that the lyrics may in fact be too relatable to listeners. That would be a shame, as I was saved due to being hooked by the cross-over success of Jars of Clay's debut album, which introduced me to the Gospel for which I'm eternally grateful. Francesca has that "it" factor that could draw literally millions of listeners to hear the Gospel truths of her music such as in the next song "Good To Know" where there is no mistaking whose love Francesca is singing about in the lyrics, "It's good to know, It's good to feel the arms of grace, To know that my mistakes are covered by Your love." "So Long" has mainstream appeal as well, and I could imagine hearing the song in a movie soundtrack.

The last three songs are a little more like Francesca's impressive debut album as "Don't Miss It" has that driving rock beat and seize the day theme similar to "It's Your Life." The last two songs are my favorite songs on the album, "Worth It" is a gorgeous ballad and love song with biblical truth paraphrased from 1st Corinthians 13, "Love takes sacrifice, Love cuts like a knife, Sometimes love will make you cry, Love's not easy, But it's worth it." Similar to "Someday Soon" and "Forever Love," this could be a wedding song for believers making a marriage commitment. Having been married for 16 years with 3 young daughters, the song moves me to tears along with the amazing title track "Hundred More Years." The song is about finding that person that you want to spend the rest of your life with and falling in love. The song is about great moments in life and wanting them to last a hundred more years. I get goose bumps and well up when Francesca passionately sings the beautiful lyrics, "they can laugh, they can cry, the future looks so beautiful and bright, they can dance in the moonlight, cause God is smiling down on them tonight, and He wants to stay right here, make it last for a hundred more years." God wants to bless His children and this song completely blesses me. Thank you Francesca for making one of the best albums I've ever heard.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
I'm convinced Hundred More Years is easily the best album by a female artist I've heard in the Christian and mainstream music market since GRAMMY award winning 19 by Adele. Reigning female vocalist of the year Francesca Battistelli has hit on all cylinders with this stellar pop music album. Every song is a perfect blend of compelling vocals, musical excellence and lyrical relevance. There are no filler songs and this album gets 5 very enthusiastic stars! This album is a "must-have" for fans of Colbie Caillat, Sara Bareilles and Adele.Hundred More Years Overview

Revelation ReviewAfter three long years, the wait is finally over. Third Day is back with "Revelation", their first album of all new material since 2005's "Wherever You Are" and their first following the departure of long-time guitarist Brad Avery (this is his final album with the band despite not being credited as an official band member).
Musically and lyrically, "Revelation" is loaded with all of the elements that make Third Day who they are. Their unmistakable Southern rock style is heard throughout the entire CD and singer Mac Powell's voice is still full of grit and passion. Above and beyond the music, Third Day's powerful Christian message and lyrics of uplifting hope and encouragement cut straight to the heart especially in the songs "Call My Name", "Let Me Love You" and "Take It All".
"Revelation" also has some notable guest apperances from Chris Daughtry who sings backup on "Slow Down", Flyleaf's lead singer Lacey Moesely on "Run To You" and "Born Again" and steel guitar extraordinaire Robert Randolph who plays a mouth-dropping solo on "Otherside".
With all this said, if you've enjoyed the music of Third Day in the past, you'll definitely love "Revelation". This is one of their strongest albums to date and definitely shows Third Day at their very best.
Truly a Revelation indeed!!!Revelation Overview

Blessings ReviewThere's no denying some of the blessings in Laura Story's life. She wrote the No. 1 worship hit "Indescribable" recorded in 2004 by Chris Tomlin, married a handsome athlete named Martin Elvington the next year, and began working in music and women's ministry at the 4,000-member Perimeter Church in Atlanta. After signing an artist deal with the INO Records, her 2008 national debut Great God Who Saves won a Dove Award for Inspirational Album and earned Laura two consecutive nominations for Female Vocalist of the Year--all blessings, indeed. But amidst that success a brain tumor hospitalized her husband in 2006. The faith Story sang about was put through the unexpected fires of fear and loneliness; most young newlyweds don't imagine being kept alive at one point by breathing machines or having to find their way through significant post-operative vision and memory loss. Could grace notes resound from such a life-altering struggle? Laura's incisive new album, Blessings, suggests they do.

Laura has quickly become one of my all-time favorite singer-songwriters. Her songs are all catchy, uplifting and filled with biblical truth. Opening songs "This Is The Day" and "Friend Of Sinners" perfectly display all of those traits. From the truth of "this is the day of our salvation," to "friend of sinners, our Deliverer, Jesus Savior of the world, sent from Heaven, King of Glory, You're the Servant of us all," every single lyric of every song is dedicated as an offering to our King and Savior Jesus. This is the perfect album to focus your heart and mind on Jesus as we prepare for Easter. Musically, the orchestral, piano, and guitar arrangements are all catchy and uplifting and church worship leaders could literally add every song to their set lists. "You Are Love" and "What A Savior" are amazing congregational songs, with very sing-able vertical lyrics. In "You Are Love," Laura passionately sings, "Everlasting, Never-ending, All Consuming, You Are Love, Oh God of the Heavens, You have ascended from Your throne...by this all men will know." In "What A Savior," my favorite part of the song is the bridge, "You are the way the truth and the life, You are my joy and salvation, Stood in my place taking my shame." Those words are a great reminder that we don't have to stand in shame anymore before the Lord. The sins that we have committed in the past, present and future have all been taken away by Jesus. Jesus bore all of that shame on the cross and gives us cause to celebrate "Hallelujah, what a Savior!"
The stand-out song of the album and surefire GMA Dove Award nominee for song of the year is Blessings' breathtaking title track and first single which has already topped the Christian charts. "Blessings" has some of the best lyrics I've ever heard in any song. I can't get enough of Laura's transparency and confessional challenges to all of us as believers in this incredible song. I am wrecked by the lyrics, "What if my greatest disappointments, Or the aching of this life, Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy." Something Laura and I discussed was that as believers we need to remember that this world is not our home. We have a much bigger agenda, and the security of everlasting life as promised by our Savior Jesus. As this song so beautifully depicts, we weren't made for this world.

The album is chock full of potential radio singles and every song is completely captivating. "Your Name Will Be Praised" has yet another worshipful bridge, "For Who You are, for what You've done, for what You've yet to do...All glory to You!" Ballads are certainly one of Laura's strengths as after dabbing my eyes and getting goose bumps constantly during "Blessings," two other stand-out songs are featured in the second half of the album, "One Life To Lose" and "Prodigal Song." "One Life To Lose" is another probable hit song with Laura's gorgeous and passionate proclamation, "For there's One Lord Who leads, I have learned when I am lost, it's there that I am found." "Prodigal Song" keeps the tears flowing as Laura sings a story-song about "Henry" where Laura sings "his father waits, and He is watching, and He is hoping, His eyes are weary, His arms are open, His prayer, so softly spoken, please come home...to your seat at the table, to your Father who weeps." The song even has a "Cats In The Cradle" moment where Henry changes from the prodigal son to the father. Laura's brilliant songwriting and engaging singing voice makes this one of those albums that you can literally listen to daily for encouragement and times of prayer and reflection. Closing songs "Remember" and "Faithful God" are both great worship songs for the Church similar to "Bless The Lord" and "Perfect Peace" from Great God Who Saves.

CLOSING THOUGHTS
With Great God Who Saves winning a GMA Dove Award for Inspirational Album and earning Laura two consecutive nominations for Female Vocalist of the Year, Blessings completely solidifies Laura as the premier singer-songwriter in the Inspirational genre. I fully expect Laura and her stellar album to be nominated for multiple awards including album, female vocalist, artist and song of the year. Offerings: A Worship Album ReviewYet another fabulous album by Third Day! There are a number of never-before-heard tracks as well as live tracks from recent concerts. The booklet includes all of the lyrics, messages from the band and a few pictures. The disc itself is designed to look like a reel on an old reel-to-reel tape machine with a piece of masking tape stuck on it... very nifty. When you remove the CD, the clear case below features a shot of the band playing before a large audience.
The same rough & raw sound, penetrating lyrics and beautiful voices (lead and background vocals) you're already familiar with are here once again, with new and familiar material. The tempo of these songs are not as fast as some of their songs like "Sky Falls Down," but if you're a Third Day fan, you won't be disappointed. For folks who've only heard a few of their singles on the radio, you'll be happy to know that all of their music is of the same caliber of those few songs that get radio play. Easy on the ears and great rockin' music. I highly recommend this disc.Offerings: A Worship Album Overview
