Driving North ReviewIf you're a fan of singer/songwriters along the lines of Patty Griffin, Cheryl Wheeler, Lucinda Williams and Elyza Gilkyson, then there's a fairly good chance that you will rejoice in the music of Chris Pureka. This New England-based folkie combines lyrical songwriting ability with an emotionally expressive (and thoroughly husky) voice, drawing you in with her simple homespun songs about heartache, happiness and the change of the seasons. Drenching the songs in the imagery of her surroundings, Pureka creates a soundtrack for East Coast travels, evoking some to compare "Driving North" to Bruce Springsteen's early '80s masterpiece "Nebraska." On gorgeous ballads like "Unwelcome" and "3 a.m.," she nails matters of the heart, while on driving, insistent tunes like the haunting "Silo Song" and "Reprieve," she does the same with a ferocity that will instantly capture your attention. Listen to any of those tunes (not to mention "Burning Bridges" or the urgently soulful "Porch Songs") and try not to instantly fall in love with Pureka's music. In fact, I dare you.Driving North Overview

Fearless Love ReviewWhile I was downloading this album from iTunes, I noticed a rating given to each song--and those ratings weren't all that great. "Fearless" was up there, as were the bonus tracks, but the others were in the 2-3 star category. I wondered what I had gotten myself into, until I started playing the album. This is Melissa at her best, as good as any CD of hers that I have, and better than some! Melissa is about my age, so the comment here about her sounding old is--of course (lol)--preposterous! If you love Melissa Etheridge's style, lyrics, power, and sound as much as I do, you will love this album.Fearless Love Overview2010 album from the best-selling singer/songwriter. The album was produced by John Shanks, whose first producer credit was Etheridge's Breakdown, her four-time Grammy-nominated album of 1999. Fearless Love expands on the multiple strengths that have made Etheridge one of the most beloved figures in Rock.It follows The Awakening, her revealing album of 2007, with a rousing tone at once tough and tender, as only she can be.It is that force of presence which has earned her, among other accolades, the 2007 Academy Award for Best Original Song, and two Grammy Awards.

Women Rock:Girls & Guitars Review"Women Rock!: Girls and Guitars" is a compilation of songs by the big guns of female rockers. Legendary voices joined together for the 2000 Women Rock concert in an effort to heighten awareness and to help the fight against breast cancer.
This CD by Sony Music Special Productions was inspired by the songs these legends performed at this very important event.
There are nine tracks(about 38 minutes total time). The songs are ones we all know and love. Included are: Heart ("Barracuda", "Crazy On You"), Sheryl Crow ("If It Makes You Happy"), Wynonna ("Only Love"), Amy Grant ("Takes A Little Time"), Melissa Etheridge ("I'm The Only One"), Cyndi Lauper("Girls Just Want To Have Fun"),and "Destiny's Child (A beautiful rendition of "Amazing Grace"). There is also a touching live track from the concert in which Lauper and Heart, sing Paul Mcartney's, "Maybe I'm Amazed" as a tribute to Linda McCartney.
This album was originally sold exclusively at Sears, who in turn, donated a portion of each sale to the fight against breast cancer. It comes with an insert with some notes about the concert, a list of the tracks, and a website to go to for info on the killer disease. Although the CD is recorded a little low(I had to turn up the stereo a few notches), I'm going with 5 stars for some great music, from immense talents, joining forces for a good cause and the treat it is to have them all on one album.
Woman Rock!...Enjoy...LaurieWomen Rock:Girls & Guitars Overview
