Gipsy Kings ReviewGipsy Kings first release was certainly a success. This Album is simply brilliant and probably the most classical of all their albums. Standout tracks are: Bamboleo, Bem Bem Maria, Un Amour, A Mi Manera, and the super hit Djobbi Djobba. The Album also contains four instrumental works which are all very good. My personal favourite is Moorea. Very Recommended.Gipsy Kings OverviewThe mega-hit album that introduced the general public to the flamenco flavors, ebullient vocals and rushing rhythms of the Gypsies.

Acoustic Africa ReviewI picked this up on a whim at my local CD shop. Not all Putumayo compilations are as good - this one has a consistent feel and excellent tracks. What made it really worth it for me was the discovery of artists I didn't know. Alongside big names like Angelique Kidjo and Faya Tess, there was the beautiful voice of Dobet Gnahore from the Cote d'Ivoire, Gabriela Mendes from Cabo Verde and two artists from Guinea-Bissau I'd like to hear more from.Acoustic Africa OverviewOn Acoustic Africa, you'll discover gentle folk songs from Senegal, a protest song from South Africa, blues-tinged ballads from Mali and much more. The performers on this album are social activists, building awareness of the current conditions in Africa that affect the region and the world. They sing of love and faith, pain and oppression, and their ability to unite people.Vusi Mahlasela is an active social commentator who often addresses issues of social and political significance in his homeland. His gripping lyrics and lovely melodies on "Basimanyana" demonstrate why Mahlasela is also a leading figure in the contemporary South African music scene. One of Africa's most world-renowned performers, Habib Koité has shared the stage with some of the world's best-known artists. On the track "Baro," Koité's wistful vocals with swirling rhythms and intertwined harmonies demonstrate his distinctive sound. Koité's music video for "Wari"is a bonus enhancement on the CD, as well as one of Koité's best-loved songs.Other artists of note include Diogal Sakho, Laye Sow, Angelique Kidjo, and Eneida Marta.Later this fall Putumayo will translate the experience of the Acoustic Africa collection into a live performance setting, bringing together three of the African continent's most gifted singer-songwriters on one stage. The Putumayo Presents: Acoustic Africa Concert Tour featuring Acoustic Africa artists Habib Koité from Mali, Vusi Mahlasela from South Africa and Dobet Gnahoré from Ivory Coast will travel to more than 40 cities in North America and Europe, giving audiences a rare and unique opportunity to experience first-hand the dynamic performances of these truly enigmatic musicians.A portion of Putumayo's proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated to Mercy Corps in support of their efforts to help AIDS victims and the victims of the civil war in Darfur.

Call of the Valley Review"Call of the valley" is to Indian classical music what "Hamlet" is to the English theater or "Mona lisa" is to the European painting - a milestone that is destined to remain the gold- standard forever. Quite possibly the highest selling album of Indian classical or instrumental album of all time, it is still finding - after three decades - new listeners who find listening to the album to be one of the most fulfilling experiences of their life. The music is simple. It is profound. It is mesmerizing. It is also revolutionary. On santoor(hammered dulcimer), flute and guitar three maestros created six simple pieces, about six-seven minutes each, and presented essence of six ragas. They say the theme is romantic. One of the instruments represents the natural ambiance and the other two represent a man and a woman courting. You may or may not get this but you will understand that this are hymns to mother nature. The beauty is that you don't have to be a connoisseur, you don't even have to know the first thing about Indian classical music to enjoy this. It simply pulls you in. In fact this is the music that has initiated hundreds of thousands of young people in India into the Classical music - even if just as a listener. As you learn more about the classical music your pleasure turns into respect for the music that you know took more evolved individuals than an average person or an average musician to create!Call of the Valley Overview

La Pistola y El Corazon ReviewIn all honesty (and with much regret), it seems that traditional Mexican music is dying out--it is with this in mind that I speak on behalf of this wonderful collection of traditional Mexican music. Los Lobos have certainly outdone themselves with La Pistola y El Corazon, which is an excellent introduction to the traditional sounds of Mexico. Quite a variety of styles are represented on this album, such as the lively "son jarocho" as well as the melancholic "huapango" and the beautifully melodic "vals," all of which are native to Mexico. The Spanish guitar seems to be the main instrument present in the majority of the songs, which is a lovely departure from the popular accordion-dominated "nortena" and "ranchera por accordeon" (little more than nortena with a slight folk influence), both of which are strongly associated with Mexico; interestingly enough, these are relatively new additions to the vast variety of music native to Mexico. The band's version of "Si Yo Quisiera" fits this fold quite nicely and will sound very familiar to perhaps the majority of listeners; I, on the other hand, am not a fan of polka, particularly Mexican polka, marking this song as my least favorite. Even then, there is still much beauty to be found on this release, particularly with the huapango "Amarillas," a very haunting number. The lively and joyful-sounding "Guacamaya" makes the perfect intro, as it invites the listener in to a world of beautiful music. "(Sonajas) Mananitas Michoacanas" bears a striking resembling to Cajun fiddling, and it is genuinely pleasing to listen to. Other than the songs "Si Yo Quisiera" and "Estoy Sentado Aqui" (not a particularly great track, really), every one of these compositions is a masterpiece. The Spanish-influenced guitar solos are also an asset to the album, proving that the members of Los Lobos are extremely talented musicians. To all who read this: this is true Mexican music. Please add this to your collection; you will not regret it.La Pistola y El Corazon Overview

Acoustic France ReviewA sweet sampling of the Nouvelle Scene, a modern musical movement that revives and reworks some of France's best musical traditions, producing sweet acoustic tunes with sleek, sly lyrics. Some of these artists were familiar to me from a bit of persistent poking around on the Amazon-France website, but many were not... The most famous singer here, of course, is model-gone-musician Carla Bruni (these days also known as "Mrs. Sarkozy," the newly-minted wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy...) who contributes one fine, understated track from her delicious debut album. And if you loved that record, you'll delight in this disc as well. There's plenty more soft-voiced acousto-crooning on here, too, including Constance Amiot and JP Nataf (both on the fab Tot Ou Tard label) and others. The best discovery for me was actress Sandrine Kiberlain, whose "Le Quoditien" is an album highlight. (I've since picked up her first album, and love it!)
There's also a bit of gypsy jazz from guitarist Romane as well as from Thomas Dutronc (the son of French pop superstars Jacques Dutronc and Francoise Hardy) as well as some crazed, catchy Eastern European hybridization from the multi-national, San Francisco-based Rupa & The April Fishes. All in all, this is a really nice record, the kind of album you can leave in rotation for weeks on end and never grow tired of. Recommended! (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To French Pop)Acoustic France OverviewExperience the romance and charm of Paris and the French countryside with Acoustic France, a CD collection featuring contemporary chanson and acoustic pop by established stars and up-and-coming artists from today's thriving French music scene.Inspired by the classic styles of an earlier generation, young artists are borrowing from old-school chanson, folk and Gypsy jazz to create an appealing modern sound. The music captures the ambiance of strolling along the Seine or sipping wine in a café on a beautiful summer day. These days, the acoustic singer-songwriter movement of the 60s and 70s is being revived by a new generation of artists. Called the Nouvelle Scène, or New Scene, it includes many of the artists featured on this collection who combine traditional sounding melodies with contemporary attitude. Featured alongside established stars are several exciting artists who have spent much of their lives outside of France.Constance Amiot was raised by French parents in West Africa and the Washington DC area before settling in France a few years ago.Acadian artist Pascal Lejeune's French/English song "Bilingue in Paris" tells of a romantic moment between two lovers in Paris.Rupa & the April Fishes is a San Francisco-based group. Lead singer and songwriter Rupa spent many of her formative years in southern France, where her mother still resides. The Rough Guide to Franco: Africa's Legendary Guitar Maestro ReviewWhile it is possible to obtain many various CDs of the music of Franco and the OK Jazz (also called the TPOK Jazz) in larger stores, there are two very good reasons to recommend this compilation. First, it contains very good liner notes, which provide a wealth of information about Franco, the recordings, the musicians, and the development of Congolese pop music. The notes were written by Graeme Ewens (author of "Congo Colossus: The Life and Legacy of Franco & OK Jazz") who helped select the recordings. [It should be pointed out that informative liner notes are generally not a feature of the African music CDs that have been issued up until now; the Rough Guide series has raised the bar in this regard.] Second, this is a great overview of Franco's career, with recordings from the 1950s through the 1980s. Some of his most popular, as well as most important, songs are showcased here. The recordings are arranged chronologically, guiding the listener through the growth of the OK Jazz from what was basically a band doing Caribbean rumba-style songs into an institution in African music with a distinctive Central African style.
Highly recommended. Good as it is, this should not be your only Franco CD, but it's by far the best selection for a first Franco CD.The Rough Guide to Franco: Africa's Legendary Guitar Maestro Overview

Island Born ReviewThis CD is a rich collection of melodies and images with Keola's resonant vocals taking you on a journey the islands. His ability to sing with such feeling about his love for his home and in the case of "True Hawaiian Ways" his mother is touching. The slack key guitar work is stunning in its complexity and rhythms and you get the feeling he is really having fun with his playing. This is a CD that makes you feel grateful to be alive and in contact with such a talent as Keola.Island Born Overview

Super Guitar Soukous ReviewOut of the Soukous CD I have heard - this is the best. I love the CD's of Tabu Ley, Franco, Kanda Bongo Man, Kofi Olumide and the rest - but this CD is the most varied and exciting.
This is great music for dancing - from the first funky notes of track 1 to the end. But there are slower pieces, such as the great Patiance Dambany song. The guitars are indeed the highlight, but that doesnt mean that the singers are not excellent.
This is THE CD that should be among every African music collection.Super Guitar Soukous Overview

The Prayer Cycle ReviewI first heard this as part of a radio program on the local NPR station, and was shamed into silence. The diversity of collaborators in this work (including US folk-rocker James Taylor, Yemenite singer Ofra Haza, Canadian rocker Alanis Morissette, the late Musrat Fateh Ali Khan [one of his last performances], the American Boychoir w/Devin Provenzano, the English Chamber Orch. & Chorus) shows the great number of fields that composer Jonathan Elias was drawing from.
The song "Hope" will lift your spirit, while James Taylor's melancholy vocals on "Grace" will move you to tears (At first, I thought he would be horribly out of place, but his voice fits the work perfectly!). The lyrics run all over the map in language. There are lyrics in Urdu, Mali, Latin, English, French, Italian, Hungarian, Dwala, Tibetan, German, Spanish and Hebrew, but they are listed in English in the CD booklet. I gather this is Elias' way of uniting the world. The lyrics are prayers, laments and pleas for forgiveness. The themes are loneliness, war and regret.
The style of music is definately classical, but does not limit itself to European roots. There are distinct influences from Africa, the Orient, and even various tribal nuances. For someone who was raised on European Classical music, it may be a shock to the system, but it works, and it is wonderful!
I forsee this recording to be one of the hand-picked few that future generations will draw upon for inspiration. As we as a people on this planet become closer, our world seems to become smaller. Our hopes, dreams, and cultures begin to overlap. This recording is proof that, when skillfully co-ordinated they can create incredible harmony.
Highly, highly reccomended. The Prayer Cycle OverviewALANIS MORISSETTE/JONATHAN ELIAS The Prayer Cycle (Deleted1999 US CD album featuring a choral symphony in nine movementswith music and text by Jonathan Elias featuring Alanis on the tracksMercy Hope Innocence and Faith plus also includes JamesTaylor Perry Farrell John Williams Ofra Haza Linda Ronstadt andmore. Falla: Songs and Piano Music ReviewDon't have any reservations about picking up this CD. As with all Naxos recordings, the performances are first-class and recorded in such a way that you hear the music rather than the painstaking attentions of a suite of sound engineers. The transcriptions from De Falla's orchestral pieces are nice to have, but the harpsichord concerto is especially excellent and difficult to find. It rivals Stravinsky and Copland in its rhythmic invention, and Elizabeth Anderson attacks it with an energy and enthusiasm that would do Wanda Landowska proud.Falla: Songs and Piano Music Overview

Arabic Groove (Putumayo Presents) ReviewThis CD focuses on dancey and pop styles from various Middle Eastern and North African musicians, and I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer diversity I found on this CD. Egyptian pop music is placed side by sid with Algerian Rai and even more exotic styles. It is truely an excellent CD, especially if you are already familar with Cairo pop music or Algerian Rai. The music on this CD is incredibly modern and dancable.
Big names, sch as Hamid el-Shaeri, Amr Diab, Natacha Atlas, Dania and the like make some excellent contributions to this CD. Hamid el-Shaeri's song alone is worth buying this CD for, and Natacha Atlas outdoes herself on Kidda. And thats not even getting into the incredibly beautiful remixes of Sawt el-Atlas and Dania.
And, of course, theres also some Algerian Rai music on this CD, though not as much as one would expect. Khaled, the King of Rai himself, presents a excellent track, "Mauvais Sang", which is particularly moving. Theres also a track by Fadela & Sahraoui and a track from Cheb Tarik. However, this CD is very eclectic, and also covers Moroccan pop, Cairo/Arab pop, and styles even further afield.
Over all, this is an excellent CD, and I stongly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys Arabic or North African music, especially Rai or Cairo pop styles.Arabic Groove (Putumayo Presents) Overview

African Guitar Summit ReviewI was influenced to purchase "African Guitar Summit" after hearing a glowing National Public Radio (NPR) review. Having already been enchanted by the continent's music, this recording seemed as sure a bet as anything. NPR didn't let me down because this is my new favorite disc of African music. While the band's name is a bit of an exaggeration, the title lives up to some of the hype. This project consists of Canadian musicians who've come from various countries such as Ghana, Kenya and Madagascar. While the musicians may be Pan-African, the rhythm is usually Highlife based and the guitar is very Zairean. Given the rhythm's tropical sway and the guitar's meandering play, the sound is laid back and relaxed. Despite vocals, the musicians are given plenty of room to stretch out. 'Vintage' and 'state of the art' are musical partners as the production avoids the pop infection that has ruined so many similar efforts. Putumayo style graphics adore the 32 page booklet that explains the project's background and provides multi-lingual lyrics. "African Guitar Summit" is one of those rare CDs that is both a great introduction to African music and a jewel in the collection of an Afrofile.African Guitar Summit Overview

Acoustic Brazil ReviewPutumayo has never gone wrong with its Brazilian compilations.Like "Brasileiro",its first Brazilian compilation, this album is focused on the country's acoustic music. This album is reflective, relaxing, and at times bittersweet, like dark chocolate.
Highlights-
1)Aquele Frevo Axe-On this song,Gal Costa sounds like the more famous Bebel Gilberto. It's a delightful song, despite its theme of lost love.
2)Samba Triste-Ana de Hollanda sings a lilting, melancholy song. Her niece is Bebel Gilberto. It's unusually catchy for a "sad samba."
3)Ciranda-A bittersweet, powerful song about memory. It's also very hopeful.Marcio Faraco sings "If I want to run, time stops/If I stop to watch, the world goes on."
4)Meu Monde e Hoje eu sou assim-This is like a Cape Verdean morna.
5)Tem quem queira-This song sounds like a Brazilian version of a mariachi song. It's almost as if Rita Ribeiro was on Linda Ronstadt's "Canciones de mi padre." Very beautiful.Rita Ribeiro is a star in Brazil with her powerful voice.
Caetano Veloso,Chico Buarque and Monica Salmaso also contribute thoughtful, delicate songs.
This is a must for any Brazilian collection!Acoustic Brazil Overviewtitolo-acoustic braziletichetta-putumayo-n. dischi1supporto-cd audiogenere-world, latin, etnicacompilation----1. aquele frevo axe' - veloso, caetano2. a voz do povo - dovale, joo3. samba triste - vanzolini, paulo4. ciranda - faraco, mrcio5. meu mundo e hoje (eu sou assim) - batista, jose'6. quando eu for eu vou sem pena - vanzolini, paulo7. tem quem queira - vieira, antnio8. cajuina - veloso, caetano9. moro na roa10. mensagem de amor - vianna, herbert11. labios de cetim - dias, ansio12. noite severina - queiroga, lula

Calcutta Chronicles: Indian Slide Guitar Odyssey ReviewOur perceptions of Indian classical music may have hardly moved on since the Beatles absorbed Ravi Shankar's tingling sitar in the 1960s, but these superb releases from younger artists show how ancient forms are evolving as India emerges as an economic superpower.
Master of the Indian slide-guitar Debashish Bhattacharya adapts the swooning tones of an instrument imported from Hawaii in the 1920s to the open spaces of the traditional raga. The eclectic influences - from Arab-Andalusian to country and western - put one in mind of a Calcutta Ry Cooder.
There are few guitarists who can claim to have created a style quite as individual as that of Debashish Bhattacharya.
He's not just a composer and virtuoso instrumentalist, but has also transformed Indian music by designing his own slide guitars, specially constructed to match the intricacies of Indian classical music.
Like a sitar player, he is backed by tabla and the tinkling sonic wash of the tamboura, but there the similarity ends.
His instrumentals include slow, drifting ragas, based around single-string improvisation, along with the Roma-inspired, gloriously upbeat "Gypsy Anandi", which mixes an Indian melody with western-influenced rhythms - plus echoes of the Hawaiian guitar, which became popular in India back in the 1920s.
There is a surprising emphasis on slower, thoughtful pieces, but the furious, controlled improvisation on the exhilarating "Aviskaar" is a reminder that he is one of India's master musicians.
The album meanwhile, builds into a succession of incendiary dialogues between two instruments long thought incompatible: the north Indian sitar and the south Indian veena. The fact that a woman plays the older, deeper-toned veena brings an interesting slant to the duo's dazzling empathic chemistry.
India isn't perhaps the place you'd look for a guitar talent. But Kolkata's Debashish Bhattacharya is one, and this solo album features music personally connected to him, often reflecting his city's artistic, multicultural aspects.
Favourites are the calm, still pieces such as a moving homage to the holy Ganges "Ganga Kinare", "Rasika", the wonderfully twangy "Kolkata to Kanyakumari" and the fusion feel of the opening Sufi Bhaktiand Hindi/ Muslim ("Sufi Bhakti").
He plays slide guitar, an instrument introduced to the city by legendary Hawaiian guitarist Tau Moe in the 1920s but Indianised by adding resonating strings and drone strings.
A 'must' have album.
Calcutta Chronicles: Indian Slide Guitar Odyssey OverviewCalcutta Chronicles: Indian Slide Guitar Odyssey is a musical journey through the centuries of guitar playing in India. Using three unique guitars that BBC award winner Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya designed himself, each beautiful raga explores influences ranging from Gypsy to Sufi with deep sensitivity and free-flowing movement between past and present, tradition and innovation.

The Best of the Gipsy Kings ReviewThere are no words to truly describe the music of the Gipsy Kings. You just have to listen to understand that this is music that stirs the blood and moves the soul. The Gipsy Kings will transport you to another world, where you will want to dance your heart out, and sing along at the top of your voice - good-bye inhibitions. The sound of this CD is pure magic!
The Gipsy Kings are from the gypsy settlements in Arles, and Montpelier, in the south of France. The group began back in the 1970s and is made up of singers and guitarists from the Reyes and Baliardo families. Lead singer Nicolas Reyes is the son of famed Flamenco singer José Reyes. Their music really took-off in 1986 when they began to work with record producer Claude Martinez. The band's trademark is the indigenous music called the rumba flamenco, with its frenetic guitar work and passionate vocals. The rumba - which originated in Africa - traveled from Zaire via the slave trade to Cuba and the New World, then back to Barcelona, where it was adopted by the Gypsies.
The group sings in gitane, a dialect mixing French, Spanish, and Catalan. "The Best of the Gipsy Kings" is an 18-track, single CD that includes much of their finest work. Cuts like "Djobi, Djoba," "Bem, Bem, Maria," "Escucha Me," and "Baile Me," will literarily move you - your feet, then your hands and shoulders...you just have to dance to this music. The dramatic "Viento del Arena" is pure sound of Spain with a gypsy touch. The mournful "Triste Pena," and "Amor" are ballads with roots plainly in flamenco. And "Volare" is a classic, with a slightly different take - gypsy style.
I have yet to hear anything that I do not like from the Gipsy Kings. There is only music that I love, and music that I like very much. This CD is a compilation of the best of the best! The Best of the Gipsy Kings Overview17 tracks chosen from their six Nonesuch albums, including the hits Bamboleo; Djobi Djoba; Baila Me; Vamos a Bailar; Volare; Love & Liberte; Moorea , and more from the undisputed champs of the World Music charts!

3: Calcutta Slide Guitar ReviewThat editorial review is, for a change, right on the money. For those already familiar with Indian classical music, this CD needs no explanation: Debashish is one of the finest servants of the raga breathing today, and hearing him explore these pieces with his brother Subhashis on tabla is an experience not to be missed."Telepathic" is not too strong of a word to describe their interplay. The pieces chosen here mesh equally well together, from the light joyfulness of Aanandam (played on the anandi), building in primal intensity through the night time gandharvi pieces of Prema Chakor and Nata Raaj, and, bursting into brilliant morning sunshine with the chaturangui pieces, Usha, Prabha, and Maha Shakti. To listen closely to these pieces in order is a transcendent experience resulting in a higher state of consciousness which persists long after the notes have died away. For those who have not heard Debashish before, you are missing out. He is quite possibly the finest guitarist breathing today. For those steeped in western guitar, imagine a player with the speed and precision to make any speed-metal virtuoso hang his head in shame, while packing so much soul and emotion into each and every note that B. B. King would burst out in tears on hearing it. Don't be intimidated by "Indian classical music". This music is alive and sensual, and you don't need a degree in music theory to "get it". Just put it on, feel the groove, and be carried away. This CD will change the way you listen to music forever.
3: Calcutta Slide Guitar OverviewPandit (master) Debashish Bhattacharya is one of the world's most remarkable slide guitarists and this album represents the culmination of a lifetime of intensive study, performance and innovation. All the guitars heard on 3: Calcutta Slide-Guitar are unique instruments designed by Debashish himself, a Trinity of Guitars – Chaturangui, Gandharvi and Anandi – representing three generations of instruments, while also continuing a thousand-year tradition of music. 3: Calcutta Slide-Guitar dazzles the listener with hypnotic patterns and stunning music shaped from Debashish's original three-finger picking technique.

Especially notable are Ernst Toch's "Cantata of the Bitter Herbs" (what gorgeous choral & orchestral writing), Paul Schoenfield's Viola Concerto (utterly fantastic excerpt "King David Dancing Before the Ark"), the excerpt from Joseph Achron's suite from The Golem, "Open the Gates" from Dave Brubeck's Gates of Justice, and the lovely duet from Joseph Rumshinsky's Yiddish operetta "Di goldene kale." Also, if you're not familiar with Jewish liturgical music or with klezmer, there are wonderful examples on this disc. My only disappointment is that, because of economic reasons, most of the recordings had to be made with European ensembles. Although the performances are excellent (under directors Gerard Schwarz, Neville Marriner, Yoel Levi and others), it's just a shame that this music, which, in addition to being Jewish, is also very AMERICAN, cannot be preserved on CD by American ensembles. At any rate, I'm pretty certain that within the next couple of years, I'll have collected all the 50 discs in this project. You don't have to be Jewish to appreciate this great music. And at around $7.00 a disc, they're an incredible value. This marvelous sampler will get you hooked on some fabulous music.Introducing World of American Jewish Music (Milken Archive of American Jewish Music) OverviewThe Milken Archive of American Jewish Music is a vast recorded panorama of the rich body of Jewish music, both sacred and secular, that has developed over the course of American history. This recording features nineteen tracks representing the broad scope of the Archive recordings.

Around the World: International Folk Songs ReviewFirst, let us ask what is a folk song and what isn't? A folk song springs out of the spirit of the people; it has no known composer. In contrast, an art song has a known composer. With time and familiarity, however, some art songs essentially become folk songs. Consider, for example, Der Lindenbaum (Schubert) and Die Lorelei (Silcher). Unfortunately, in the US "folk song" became adulterated, associated with Joan Baez; Peter, Paul, and Mary; and even Burl Ives (very versatile and one of my favorite singers). A personal comment--Am Brunnen vor dem Tore da steht ein Lindenbaum suffuses my soul, and I feel that Schubert composed it specifically for me, a world traveler who may also long for the peace of home! Moving to the CD under review, one could not find a more worthy group than the Wiener Saengerknaben directed by Peter Marschik. The CD includes songs from most countries that are familiar to the average listener. Some songs are very familiar--Shenandoah, Loch Lomond, and Cielito Lindo--and many not so familiar. I recommend this CD to listeners who are just now taking an interest in folksongs. My only complaint is that some songs are hard to hear, perhaps because the amplitude was set too low. I came across this CD because it was the only recording of Sarie Marais (of Boer origin} and one of my favorite songs.Around the World: International Folk Songs Overview
