Give Up the Ghost ReviewI've had the vinyl release for several days now and am quite pleased while looking forward to acquiring the CD for my car. I've been listening to Brandi Carlile and the Hanseroth brothers since I received a 'song-of-the-day' iTunes card from Starbucks in October of '07 highlighting the song 'Turpentine'. A few of these songs written by Brandi alone are so heartfelt, it truly feels as though she's desperately reaching out to disconnected people in her past.
The subtle use of instrumentation and orchestration in this third release is beautifully produced and does not in any way obscure from Brandi's unparalleled voice. She could sing (or yodel) her weekly grocery list, and I would drop what I'm doing to listen... anytime.
My current favorite tracks are 'Looking Out' (w/Amy Ray), 'Dying Day', 'Pride And Joy', 'Before It Breaks', and 'Touching the Ground'. Basically the entire album will grow on you. The upbeat song 'Caroline' is a wonderful treat with Elton John playing the piano the way ONLY Elton John can. Highly recommended!Give Up the Ghost Overview

Junebug ReviewI saw Harte by accident in San Francisco and was just marginally impressed enough to buy this album - his performances of Junebug and Candy Ring are what did it. Ever since, each time I listen to the album I like it a little more, discover some new beauty in yet another song... The music is spare but lovely, the ingredients are few but the taste nuanced: it's very simple and clever... perhaps analogy would prove the best description. So, if you like, hmm, Joni Mitchell, esp Clouds or For the Roses; Paul Simon's b-sides, or his Rhythm of the Saints; and / or Louise Gluck's poetry, you'll probably like this.Junebug OverviewMentl Music officially registered as a business in September 1991 in the State of California. In 1995, Mentl Music also registered as an independent record label, UPC code and all.Under the company name, we have produced several media projects ranging from concerts to trade show booths; from web sites to product demos. We have produced 3 cds for Pardes, and have participated in several compilation projects, including The SIBL Project. Also coming in December - a new CD from artist Alexis Harte. Our initial work in music has spawned into our love for things creative. This company supports our ability to get involved in all kinds of projects. Some work bends towardsthe corporate needing to bend towards the cool. Some work focuses on building community around the artists that need the support and the recognition. Some things pay the bills, some things feed the soul. It 's all about balance.
