Don't Look Away ReviewDon't be fooled by her age, Kate Voegele is no spring chicken when it comes to the music industry. Signed by MySpace Records last year, Voegele began recording her first full length album, the resultant "Don't Look Away," a follow-up to two independently released EP's entitled "The Other Side" (2003) and "Louder Than Words" (2005). Voegele began making her mark opening shows for artists like Josh Kelley, The Wreckers, Stephen Kellogg, and a host of others over the past five years. Armed in most cases with nothing more than an acoustic guitar, Kate Voegele demanded attention on stage with her amazing voice and powerful lyrics. This debut album furthers her maturation process as an artist and shows that this songstress is ready to make a permanent mark in the industry that she loves.
For the ITunes fan, can't miss downloads are:
12. Wish You Were
"Cuz I've seen your act, and I know all the facts.
I'm still in love with who I wish you were.
It ain't hard to see, who you are underneath,
I'm still in love with who I wish you were."
11. I Won't Disagree (a song that Voegele received first prize in the 2005 USA Songwriting Competition for)
"Cause lately you make me weaker in the knees
And race through my veins baby every time you're close to me
Take me away to places I ain't seen
They say you've got a hold on me'
And I Won't Disagree"
Kate has also landed a recurring role on the WB's "One Tree Hill." Her character Mia has performed several of the songs on the show that you can find right here on this album. If you're a fan of the songs you've heard on the show, this album is a must have that you'll definitely enjoy from start to finish.
This is a strong debut effort from an extremely talented young lady. Kate Voegele will be a name to look out for in the music business for many years to come. Congrats Kate, You truly are on "Top of the World."Don't Look Away Overview

Alannah Myles ReviewI sure miss the mature, rockin' talented women of the 70's, 80's to late 80's ( Heart and Pat Benatar specifically). These gals could belt out with the vocals and their wild feminine charms without ever becoming sugar coated caricatures of pop music...
Then,Myles shows up to prove that they still existed towards the closing of the 80's.After Alannah's explosive chart topping album from '89 it seemed she was destined for more success. After the Black Velvet hit, she released a couple of lesser well known and harshly critiqued albums...
Alannah Myles debut, containing Black Velvet ,showcased her as a sexy rock n' roll siren with sultry throaty vocals without coming across as dry sandpaper but rather smooth silk. There were no filler tracks or songs penned at the last minute. Each song, while collectively they worked together, had it's own unique flavor...Alannah Myles Overview

Distillation Review~Erin Mckeown has taken a wealth of influences and used them to create the first completely original singer/songwriter album I've heard in a long time...this is certainly not a "3 chords and the truth" album, nor is it "jazzy" in the traditional Joni Mitchell sense of the word. The album sets a new standard for grittiness with bone-dry production and songs that are played with swagger. The lyrics, while obviously personal, are definitly not in the story-teller vein...abstract and~~ oblique enough to allow internalization by the listener. This is singer/songwriter music with rock and roll attitude delivered in a completely original and unique way. One of those CDs you can't believe you were lucky enough to discover.~Distillation Overview

The Spirit Room Reviewas a teenage girl, i often feel as though the music industry is constantly pushing false images and manufactured "girl anthems" at me. to be perfectly honest, i was a bit hesitant to buy michelle branch's major label debut. sure, i'm a big hanson fan, and i know she toured with them. big deal. i was prepared for her to be maverick records' answer to britney spears.
however. . .i've listened to each song on the album a few times, and i must say i'm pleasantly surprised. michelle writes (yes, she actually had a hand in each song on the album) with as much honesty and awkwardness as any teenage girl feels every day. the songs are quite relateable, and she doesn't seem to be some supergirl who i could never aspire to be or meet or know. she's just a regular girl, singing regular songs about regular feelings. i'd say this is maverick records' attempt to corner the regular girl market. anyhow, here's a bit of each song, in detail.
track 1 - "everywhere": it's no surprise that this was the first single from spirit room. pop radio will love it for it's incredibly catchy hooks, and alternative radio will give it a few spins because it's a girl with a guitar. everyone wins. this is a great song, though, and michelle's unique voice packs a ton of emotion.
track 2 - "you get me": now, here's the awkward teen girl song i alluded to before. if ever there was a song for all the girls of the world who were neither popular nor confident, this is it. these lyrics are amazing ('so i'm a little left of center/i'm a little out of tune/some say i'm paranormal/so i just bend their spoon/who wants to be ordinary/in a crazy, mixed-up world/i don't care what they're sayin'/as long as i'm your girl'), as though she's accepted her uniqueness and is embracing it, rather than hiding from it. someone should put this on the soundtrack to gilmore girls. o wait. . .i think "everywhere" beat this song to it.
track 3 - "all you wanted": another well-crafted song for teenage outcast girls to relate to. the lyrics make me think of a girl trying to save a boy from the popular crowd, who are so empty and shallow inside, because she knows he is more than that. i'm relating already!
track 4 - "you set me free": yeah, teenage girls can be relateable, but we can be major saps, too. ('you're in my heart/the only light that shines/there in the dark') despite lyrical mishaps, michelle's vocal ability saves this song.
track 5 - "something to sleep to": this song is actually different than most others i've heard lately. i'm sure she's not inventing some kind of musical style here, but at least it's a change of pace from songs that rhyme 'love' with 'above'. michelle's voice is haunting and melodic at the same time, and her confusion makes this more of a story than a song.
track 6 - "here with me": the beats in this song are more hip-hop than rock, which gives it an interesting feel. i'd like this to be the next single. the chorus is sing-a-long-able. ('i know you had to go away/i died just a little, and i feel it now/you're the one i need/i believe i would cry just a little/just to have you back now/here with me/here with me')
track 7 - "sweet misery": i think this song was taken from michelle's independant release, broken bracelet. the original version was a bit better, though less polished, in my opinion. this heavily produced track falls a bit flat because it removed the guitar, angst feel from the original. the lyrics are still really pretty.
track 8 - "if only she knew": this song is absolutely one of my favorites. everything falls into place here, with the guitars, vocals, lyrics. . .everything. i'm sure that any fan of today's pop divas would change their tune after hearing this one.
track 9 - "i'd rather be in love": wouldn't we all? michelle is wise beyond her eighteen years, and this song proves it. ('why are we afraid to be in love?/to be loved/i can't explain it/i know it's tough to be loved')
track 10 - "goodbye to you": this is definitely another girly, coming-of-age song. it seems to be about breaking up with a first love, and michelle managed to capture all the contrasting feelings that go along with that situation in this heartbreaker.
track 11 - "drop in the ocean": quite a mellow song; perfect to close the album.
i hope that michelle branch is powerful enough to make a mark in the pop music industry. it's about time teenage girls have someone besides britney to idolize. i'm not saying that britney spears isn't fun in her own right, but change is necessary to human existence. i'm tired of being spoken down to, and feeling as though i have to be a sexual object to be important. let's hope that michelle branch gets to enjoy the success she so deserves. The Spirit Room OverviewIncludes Different Artwork Than USA Version and Exclusive CD Rom Section which features Behind the Scenes Footage of the Making of this CD, a Picture Gallery plus a Weblink.--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Bare Bones ReviewMadeleine's musical training came on the streets of Paris, where she started as a busker, then after a street-corner audition she got a gig singing with the Lost Wandering Blues and Jazz band, performing songs by artists such as Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Fats Waller.
Her previous albums Careless Love and Half the Perfect World sold over a million copies, earning critical-acclaim for her Jazz-Blues interpretations of works by artists such as Leonard Cohen and Edith Piath.
When she went "missing" in Britain while promoting her breakthrough album "Careless Love", her record company couldn't wait to tell the media.
How better to differentiate Maddie from the rest of the jazz-lite crew than by painting her as a wayward chanteuse? She hadn't disappeared, of course. She'd simply become bored with the promo-circus and gone back to New York. And who could blame her?
But Madeleine didn't need a vanishing act to raise her above her rivals. Her smoke-and-honey vocals, Billie Holiday phrasing, and breezily bohemian way with classy material had assured her fanbase.
They won't be disappointed by her new release, "Bare Bones", produced by Joni Mitchell's ex, Larry Klein.
She has built a career on interpreting the works of other people.
Her sensitive, exquisite voice, reminiscent of the great jazz singers of our yesterdays has added her signature 'postmodernist coolness' (LA Times) and fresh brushstrokes to the work of artists including Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Hank Williams and Serge Gainsbourg.
"Bare Bones" is her 4th solo album and her third with Rounder Records.
It's her most personal, intimate and almost confessional album: she had a hand in writing all the 11 tracks, including collaborations with producer Larry Klein, Walter Becker, Julian Coryell, Joe Henry, David Batteau and Sean Wayland : her intimate readings of original and contemporary love songs evoke emotions laid bare.
It's a daring high-wire act for the 34-year-old singer who for the first time is working without the safety net of covering songs associated with her favourite musical acts, mostly from the past.
With "Bare Bones", Maddie has crafted her best album yet, an artistic breakthrough that finds her sublime voice wrapped around a collection of soulful, silky late-night songs that she helped craft from their inception, marking her evolution as a songwriter. One song, "I Must Be Saved", was written entirely by Peyroux.
While the surface of the songs she sings has an easy-listening quality, there are chasms of emotional turmoil lurking beneath.
She says the album builds from wariness, to loss, to acceptance, and finally to hope.
"I'm really happy that I got to write", she adds, "It feels like a new segment, and it's great work. I'm surrounded by beautiful sounds, really honest musicians, really honest playing".
In fact, the musicianship is excellent: a small group of top notch artists underscore perfectly the languid and bluesy singing of the unusual diva: organist Larry Goldings, pianist Jim Beard, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, plus producer Klein on bass, his new wife, Brazilian Luciana Souza - who, by the way, is a guest on all Larry Klein produced albums - on bckgr vocals, Dean Parks on guitar, and Carla Kihlstedt on violin.
"It's an exhilarating mixture of fear and self-confidence, in a way...And, obviously, because I am a very new writer, I'm kind of discovering myself by watching audiences' takes on this stuff".
She will always be a busker. Her bohemian upbringing ensures it. Her eschewing of the trappings of celebrity proves it.
And maybe this time around as well, sometimes soon she will vanish just to resurface some days later in another corner of her world.
"Peyroux's soul and melting voice stands out, ways out, from the pack". - TimeOut
Maddie, who said she spent time in a domestic violence shelter as a child, is donating $1 from every ticket sold on her current tour to local charities affiliated with the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
My favourite tracks: "Instead", "River of Tears", "You Can't Do Me", "Love and Treachery" and "Something Grand", which she wrote "in support of the new era with Barack Obama".
Oceana
Update.
The album debuts at # 1 of Billboard Top Jazz Album.

Written in Red ReviewImagine a child having Bonnie Raitt and Greg Brown as parents. That child might be Louise Taylor. Her latest cd,"Written in Red", is her very best work yet. Her lyrics are dark , intriging, at times disturbing. Her voice has that smokey, chocolate sound that never gets tiring. Her guitar is perfectly matched to the tone and color of each piece. This entire cd is well written, beautifully performed, and well produced. It contains some of the best new music I've heard in a long time.Written in Red Overview

The Best of Bonnie Raitt ReviewHeart-felt, visceral country-accented vocals, the slide guitar, & phenomenal lyrics - *plus* rock and roll, country, the blues, and some reggae beats in at least three tracks ... she can play with the best of them and come out the "winner". Her voice is unique, her style of playing original - she sets the standards for modern blues and country female vocals. Only one other female vocalist achieved such fame and recognition -- Patsy Cline who is in a different category altogether ...
If you like 'feel good', 'tell it like it is' lyrics with an upbeat sound, at times gripping gut-wrenching vocals - it is here! This compilation has some classics like, "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About" and "I Can't Make You Love Me" but also unexpected slower, quieter tunes, such as "Dimming of the Day", "One Belief Away", and "Hear Me Lord". I hear a Caribbean reggae style beat in the last one ... it is also present at the beginning of "Have a Heart" and at least one other track. The bluesy style in many tracks are balanced off by other styles to create a well rounded complete collection.
I loved seeing Bonnie Raitt on TV specials but never bought her music. I am pleased to have found this compilation. Someone carefully sorted out 'the best' plus added a good sample of her different styles so that an uninitiated fan, like me, can have it all, in one CD. Anyone faintly attracted to 'cross-over' styles of country, blues, and rock and roll would love this CD. Once hearing this CD there will be no doubt about purchasing it. This lady is in a class by herself!

Coco ReviewWho is Colbie Caillat? From the CD pix, she looks like a real pretty version of Jennifer Aniston, wholesome, all American girl. There's a mention of her being from MySpaceMalibu, so you expect light and breezy, but it's actually pretty mature and well thought out lyrics that gets your attention, even with the soothing acoustic guitar, the lyrics are pretty serious like "Midnight Bottle" about subduing one's loneliness with a drink(she was 22 at the recording of this CD) or moving away from a bad relationship in "Battle."
The first track "Oxygen" sets the tone of this album with her deep, smokey Rickie Lee Jones voice. With modest beginings, Colbie can be the next big thing, her understated grace and inate talent as a musician might be key to her success. She kinda reminds one of a female version of Jack Johnson or Donovan Frankenritter. So folks looking for something alternative to listen to, this is it.Coco OverviewColbie Caillat is the quintessential California girl. Her idea of a good time is hanging out with her friends at a beach bonfire or hopping in the car, tunes at the ready, and driving up the Pacific Coast Highway. On Coco, her Universal Republic debut, the songs mirror Caillat's low-key, refreshing style. Armed with her acoustic guitar and her dusky vocals, she evokes the same gentle, yet spirited style of her musical influences John Mayer, Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill and The Weepies As befits the organic style of her music, Caillat's fan base has grown by word of mouth, one person at a time. Last year, she began posting her songs on her Myspace page and with no marketing push and only the power of the music behind her, Caillat became a sensation on the site. Last October when she had 6,240 friends, Rolling Stone highlighted her as one of the top female artists on myspace. Ultimately, Caillat became the #l unsigned artist for over four months and her number of friends swelled to more than 100,000. Her profile has been visited over 3 million times, and she has more than l2 million plays.

Laws Of Illusion ReviewLAWS OF ILLUSION is Sarah McLachlan returning to her finest form, last seen since SURFACING, released 14 years ago. This album took 7 years and perhaps countless ups and downs in McLachlan's life to make - and the wait is every bit worthwhile. McLachlan's discography has always been timeless, such that SURFACING could have been released yesterday and LAWS OF ILLUSION in 1996 and no one would be able to tell. Such is the excellence of musical craftsmanship and brilliance of song-making partnership between McLachlan and long-time producer Pierre Marchand.
There are 12 songs (and an additional bonus track) on this latest album, 2 of which previously featured on GREATEST HITS released 2 years ago. Initially I was critical of this, blaming laziness and lack of effort. Then I became appreciative. "U Want Me 2" is one of the best McLachlan songs ever - lush instrumental, poetic lyrics, ethereal vocals all lending to heartbreaking imagery. I'm glad I have it on here as part of the collection rather than having to keep going back to the GH collection to hear it. It fits in perfectly with LAWS OF ILLUSION like the last piece of jigsaw. And 13 songs on a McLachlan studio album is always a bonus, considering SURFACING and AFTERGLOW only had 10!
LAWS OF ILLUSION is perhaps McLachlan's hardest and edgiest sounding collection - swirling electric guitars are present on most songs. But the sound never drifts too far from what all fans will claim is McLachlan's (sort of what you'd expect if Enya did rock). The album also contains some of McLachlan's happiest sounding songs in a sing-songy, chorusy way: "Illusion Of Bliss", "Loving You Is Easy", "Out Of Tune" and "Heartbreak". Even the instrumentation is fuller, more uplifting, a little bit more bouncy as if it were skipping happily along. But make no mistake, those "happy" songs never end up sounding like cotton candy having been through the hands of this queen of melancholy. McLachlan always finds a way to serve them up as mostly minor-chord songs that transition into a major-chord chorus. "Illusion Of Bliss" is a misnomer, there is no illusion about the bliss contained in this song.
I need to specially mention "Forgiveness", my newest, favourite McLachlan song. The instrumental arrangement is exquisite, the melody is trademark McLachlan. The solitary piano beginnings deceive the listener into thinking this as "Angel" #2, but when the beats drop, background cooing vocals enter and guitar envelope the song, you discover the masterpiece. I think this song inspired the classy and dreamy album cover. I also need to single out "Awakening". It is different, moody, electric-guitar-rock-loud and has a song structure that is not immediately discernible. But it is a stand-out and showcases McLachlan as a rock goddess doing Coldplay. Finally, "Rivers Of Love" and "Changes" deserve attention too, as a throwback to the SURFACING era. This is your 2010 "Do What You Have To Do" and "Full Of Grace" respectively. Check out the saw.
I have deliberately left out the most important ingredient on LAWS OF ILLUSION for last. Shimmering, magical, breath-taking, expressive, soothing and flawless: McLachlan's voice. It is what makes a McLachlan CD a McLachlan CD. It has remained the same from the day I first started listening to her. Her phrasing is unique; her slight cracks are emotion-drenched; and the oft-featured yodel-break is skilfully used throughout.
LAWS OF ILLUSION is pretty much perfect. I'll be spinning this one for however long it takes for the next McLachlan CD to drop. If she takes this long to release music as astounding as this, so be it.

Greatest Hits by Pat Benatar ReviewIt's about time! Previous Benatar remasters have been fair to poor, sounding like they were pulled from any random source rather than the original master tapes. The 1999 'Synchronistic Wanderings' anthology, although an excellent collection of hits and rarities, was simply lacking with the remastering. "Love Is A Battlefield", for example, sounded rather flat for a so-called remaster. The same could be said for "We Belong" and most of the other tracks. Then there was the 2002 'Classic Masters' release. Finally I thought Capitol got it right since I had bought other 'Classic Masters' releases from other acts and was greatly impressed. Again, Capitol failed to impress with it's rather flat mastering treatment.
'Greatest Hits' has been digitally remastered by Evren Goknar @ Capitol Mastering, Hollywood. Oddly enough, Evren also remastered 1999's 'Synchronstic Wanderings' anthology. However, Evren has done a much better job on this 2005 release! The differences on some tracks are striking. The audio is rich, full, clear, and sharp -- a depth unheard of in any previous releases.
FINALLY, Capitol got it right with this release! While many Benatar fans may be reluctant to pick up yet another "hits" release from the rocker the audio quality alone should hopefully be enough to entice a few of the audiophiles.
I popped this disc into my player hoping I wouldn't be let down. From hearing the beginning heavy drum beats of "Heartbreaker" I knew I was in for a real treat! The remastering here is superb! Finally we get "Love Is A Battlefield" and "We Belong" with depth and range! "Shadows Of The Night" has never sounded so heavy! It's nice to have here in it's better single version. "Invincible" actually has a punchy intro. It has always sounded compressed and flat previously. Ah, "Le Bel Age" is breathtaking with it's bass line and drums! Who knew this little '86 hit had so much kick?! All tracks sound nearly flawless!
My only complaint is that while this collection covers most of Pat's biggest hits it's missing selections from the 1990s, notably gems such as "True Love" and "Somebody's Baby." Perhaps it would have been better titled as 'Greatest Hits 1979 - 1989' with another hits collection to follow a few months later, capturing those remaining hits and other strong album cuts.
The liner notes include comments from other female artists, such as Lisa Marie Presley, Tori Amos, and Martina McBride.
Additionally, Capitol have decided to use single versions of select tracks, perhaps for time, since the release is 20 tracks and clocking in 10 seconds short of 80 minutes. While some people may cringe at edited versions, most of them work here. However, I must say I've never been that fond of the single version of "Love Is A Battlefield" since it sounds chopped with the fade-out. Perhaps the full-length version will surface on a future remastered release. The tracklisting:
01 Heartbreaker (Single Mix)
02 We Live For Love (Single Edit)
03 Hit Me With Your Best Shot
04 Hell Is For Children
05 Treat Me Right
06 You Better Run
07 Fire And Ice
08 Promises In The Dark
09 Precious Time
10 Shadows Of The Night (Single Edit)
11 Little Too Late (Single Edit)
12 Looking For A Stranger
13 Love Is A Battlefield (Single Edit)
14 We Belong
15 Ooh Ooh Song (Single Edit)
16 Invincible (Theme From 'The Legend Of Billie Jean')
17 Sex As A Weapon
18 Le Bel Age (Single Edit)
19 All Fired Up (Single Edit)
20 One Love (Song Of The Lion) (Single Edit)
Now Capitol, how about giving Pat's entire catalogue a remastering treatment? 5.1 would be nice!Greatest Hits by Pat Benatar Overview

Live in Paris ReviewI know diana Krall gets her share of record company hype, but in the case of the DVD and CD here, it's actually deserved -- and therefore it really isn't "hype".
"The Look of Love" from 2001, was a bad stumble, and I guess Diana and her cohorts realized it. So they set out to redeem and recapture their stature and reputations. Just for the record, they succeeded -- the recovery is magnificent. I'm not sure if this is the same band with which she toured Asia in 2001 (a stellar performance on May 7, 2001 in Kowloon, Hong Kong SAR --if anyone else reading this caught it, then you know). But the jazz musicianship here is outstanding.
The strings and studio-generated mush is gone, and so are the producer efforts to make Diana Krall sound like "[insert top pop-chick's name] for adults". There are several elements that make this a worthwhile purchase even if you own several Krall studio CD's. In the case of the DVD, there's the added bonus of the visuals, an expanded song selection, and lots of off stage and 'behind the scenes' footage. But as if to make sure that fans buy both, the CD features songs not on the DVD. THe mix is more jazz and less pop than the studio recordings. As a consequence, Diana Krall's piano playing is featured more prominently. Songs that really fell flat on "Look of Love" are also brought to life by the presence of a drummer and vibraharpist (who is curiously not credited--probably due to some matter involving lawyers).
This performance is a return to classic form for jazz fans. The arrangements are excellent, the crowd is quiet during the songs -- but clearly thrilled by the performance. But what really makes this memorable is the song selection. That is strong enought here that I think this CD will still be listened to (and selling) decades from now.
A few surprises are "Just The Way You Are", from Billy Joel's mid-1970's album "The Stranger", and "A Case Of You", an obscure Joni Mitchell song from "Blue". The jazz versions actually outdoo the originals in some respects, and suggest that great songs will be Diana Krall's main focus in future releases. That impression is reinforced by her rendition of "Fly Me To The Moon", originally a hit for Frank Sinatra.
While she missed being on the soundtrack to the movie "Space Cowboys", Krall has had other collaborations with Clint Eastwood. Eastwood (along with Willie Nelson and a few other old warhorses) seems to be looking for cool new talent and apparently Diana Krall fits that mold. So, I think we can all expect some really exceptional releases and movie soundtrack work from Diana and her fellow musicians in the next few years.
By refusing to go the pop route and doing what some brain dead VP at a record company wanted, Diana Krall has avoided the fate of Cheryl Crow and others who desparately chase celebrity and try to be part of the IN CROWD. With this release she has crossed a threshold to become one of the IN CROWD on her own terms.
This CD has the earmarks of a defining piece of work. Probably the first classic Jazz release of the 21st century.Live in Paris OverviewCanadian version of 2002 live release includes oneexclusive bonus track, 'Charmed Life' & the U.S. bonustrack, 'Just The Way You Are' (Studio Version/Billy Joelcover). The first-ever live concert recording from Grammywinning vocalist/pianist Diana Krall, recorded at the Paris Olympia Theatre winter 2002. songs of simple dreams ReviewWhat convinced me to by this album was the song "Lord Let Me Live Again". I am not into organized religion, and not religious at all really, but something really struck me about that song. It reminds me of some of my other favorite artists who write about religion and spirituality but never shove it down your throat, it is just there at times. The other thing I like about this album is the interesting mix of sounds, besides the usual guitar, bass and drums there are so many other unique sounds like flutes, mandolins, acordian, marimba and more. This is a good trip from start to finish. I would consider Smoke Ring Days to be good songwriters, the material here is quite good. I really like songs that make powerful statements. Listen to "August Sun" and "Darkness on the Land" - powerful stuff to say the least. It is obvious these people create soulful poetic music deep from within their souls. A real treat to the senses.songs of simple dreams OverviewFinally available in the US after several years as an import-only UK release, Songs of Simple Dreams lures the listener by weaving earnest songwriting, transcendent lyricism, nouveau blues, and Alt-Americana arrangements into the fabric of a new musical consciousness.Coloured by lush and haunting harmonies and soaring guitar work, the album is a painstakingly-crafted patchwork of moving material, from the powerful protest music of ‘August Sun' and ‘Darkness on the Land' to the fragile folkiness of ‘Daydream Tomorrows' and the sweet sensuality of ‘Baby, Don't You Follow.'With Songs of Simple Dreams, Smoke Ring Days creates aural commentary that spans the gamut from heartfelt emotional outpourings to well-placed political punches.

The Christmas We Hoped For ReviewI am a long-time collector of Christmas CDs, and this album is my new favorite. Vanessa's voice is beautiful, and each song in the collection seems to highlight a different facet of her range and abilities. The CD's a wonderful blend of old standards and new holiday tunes, and everything's had an updated spin put on it. I can't recommend it highly enough. The Christmas We Hoped For Overview"The Christmas We Hoped For" is an instant holiday classic - an eclectic collection of traditional hymns, contemporary favorites like "White Christmas," and modern Christmas songs like The Weepies' "All That I Want." The album began as a side project intended to get Vanessa back into the studio after a nearly 3-year hiatus, and it turned into an all-consuming affair that had Vanessa in the studio throughout the hottest Texas summer in 30 years. As Peters told the story, 'There's nothing quite like singing White Christmas while the temperature outside is 110 degrees.' Produced by Rip Rowan and featuring Grammy-winning guitarist / producer Joe Reyes, the album offers a fresh take on Christmas classics that remains true to the spirit of the original songs.
