Blue ReviewThis is a great new album of fun country songs. When I first heard this, I thought LeAnn was an adult. What a surprise to find out she was my age! She is very talented and I think the songs are great! She is given country a great comeback and I think she did a very good job picking out songs. "Light in Your Eyes" is my favorite on the album, because I find it inspirational. "Blue" and "Cattle Call" are also some of my favorites. If you are a great country fan, or just discovering country for the first time, BUY THIS ALBUM!Blue Overview

I Got Your Country Right Here ReviewIts about 3 years since her last album - which seems a long time - she has moved from Major Label to her own label and I guess more control over her career and sound. Its hard to believe, given the start she had in the business (around 2004/5) that she is still not on a major label. But as her last album didnt chart that well with singles, I guess shes a victim of Nashville's ever shortening attention span.
On the title track, the first track, she mentions her influences - deep fried southern rock, Charlie Daniels, Lynryd Skynrd, ZZ Top and Waylon - That is "your" Country. And if it is "your" country I am sure you will be tapping your toes along to most of the numbers. This is where Country meets Southern Rock. Its a very modern sound - definitely not the Tammy or Loretta strain. The producer is John Rich and 'the blue collar song' seems to mine the same vein as his 'closing Detroit down' song from a year or so ago. A few years back Gretchen appeared on a CMT outlaws special and here she gives a nod in that direction again with "Outlaws and Renegades". Overall the album has a very rocking sound and if you like that you will not be disappointed.
Having said that, the third track is an excellent ballad - which has a more traditional country sound - think I almost caught the sound of a steel guitar on there - which seems very gentle and touching set against the rest of the album. Its a cheatin' song from the other womans point of view.
The fourth track "The Earring song", is also great - not so heavy and I would say more country - she doesnt want to take her earrings out, but she will, and show the woman what a cat fight is all about. Its a light hearted song and will bring a smile to your face - excellent stuff!
The final song is also a ballad - and is an acoustic number. I can imagine it goes down well as an encore number at concerts.
I think with the "Earring Song" and "I'm only human" she has two potentially big hits on her hands. This is a very good album and if you are a Gretchen fan, you will love it!

Juice Newton - Greatest Hits (And More) ReviewLet's go back in time, two decades before the likes Shania Twain and Faith Hill put their brand of pop-country on the charts. Juice Newton's style of music straddled the pop and country spectrums, although given some of her cover songs, belied an influence of 60's pop like Joan Jett.
However, she first made her mark by covering Bonnie Tyler's "It's A Heartache" the same year Tyler hit #3 on the charts. Newton's cover did reached an abysmal #86, and her version has more of a slicker pop production than the original. But the country inflections can still be felt, especially on the similar sounding "Laying Back In The Arms of Someone." Others seem closer to country, in the case of "Break It To Me Gently," a slow-dancing number that peaked at #11 and topped the adult contemporary charts for two weeks.
Her real moment came from two singles from her Juice album. A cover of Merrilee Rush's tender "Angel In The Morning" bettered the original by three places, reaching #4 in 1981 as well as 3 weeks at #1 on the adult contemporary charts. Juice's version is punctuated by short bursts of guitar and accompanying drums and a strong rock guitar and wall of strings presence throughout. It's difficult to decide between the soft original and this one belonging to my pop culture home page. Her biggest hit was the #2 hit "Queen of Hearts" also from Juice, which is an upbeat perfect blend of country with pop sensibilities and minus steel guitar, and a memorable hit, as it is ranked 25th of 1981's singles.
Chartwise though, her ballad "The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known)", which she originally recorded in 1975, made it to #1 on the country and adult contemporary charts in 1981, as well as #7 on the pop charts. This is another number strings and rock guitar replacing steel guitar in what would've been a country ballad, but it also showcases her vibrant vocals, never better than here.
"So Many Ways" belongs squarely in late 70's style rock with a hint of 80's vixen rock, maybe because of the squealing Boston-like guitars at the opening, and the later hard-driving snarls, not surprising as it came from her Well Kept Secret (1978) album and others like Boston and Bob Seger were also making it big with that sound.
Her latter hits showed her going more in the hard-rocking Laura Branigan/Pat Benatar direction, with some notable synth pounding in her #7 hit "Love's Been A Little Hard On Me." A very 80's sounding song, as was the Journey-like "Heart of the Night," where her voice really resembled Branigan. Her cover of the Zombies' #6 hit "Tell Her No" was her last Top 40 hit, reaching #27, and sounded like something out of the Flashdance soundtrack with the Giorgio Moroder-like synths and some reggae keyboards thrown in for good measure. And the title track of her 1983 album "Dirty Looks," was Blondie's "Call Me" meets Laura Branigan. This should've been a Top Ten hit at least.
More pop (and later hard rock) than country, Juice Newton's 15 minutes was in 1981, and this collection serves up all her Top 40 hits and some that should've been.

Breathe ReviewWhat is wrong with you people? Are we that insecure that we have to categorize EVERYTHING! "Breathe" is not typical country, all I think agree, but it is awesome music filled with so much. Faith has said many times before that she has been inspired by all types of music and that all of these together have shaped her. She said that she would never go out and make a pop album but also could never make a traditional country album. Faith sings what she feels at the time she is working on the album. We cannot judge someone on how they FEEL! She is at an extremely exciting, fun, and happy time in her career and personal life. The songs show that well. Stardom could never ruin such a soulful and grounded person like Faith. She wants to sing what she wants to sing and we can't stop her or anyone else from doing it. So, why can't we just place music only under one category, MUSIC, and just enjoy it! "Breathe" is a must buy for people who want good, soulful, fun, music!Breathe OverviewNo Description AvailableNo Track Information AvailableMedia Type: CDArtist: HILL,FAITHTitle: BREATHEStreet Release Date: 11/09/1999

Here We Go Again ReviewWhen I first listened to "Here We Go Again", the first single off her second album of the same title, I pretty much felt that we have seen this Disney-driven actress/singer blossom to a talented musical artist.
It's one thing to see Demi Lovato shine on "Camp Rock" and her debut album "Don't Forget" but the singer has said that this album is "more me" and that includes a sound that incorporates a Jonas Brothers and John Mayer sound.
Inspired by John Mayer, The Jonas Brothers and Jon McLaughlin, Lovato has collaborated with these talents and the end result is a fantastic sophomore album that easily eclipses her debut album in musical production but also vocally.
It's one thing to have a solid track "Here We Go Again" but she continues that rock/pop excitement with tracks such as "Solo", "Got Dynamite" and "Everything You're Not".
But she shines in tracks such as her acoustic guitar track "Catch Me" which she solely wrote, shines in the John Mayer collaboration with "World of Chances", the upbeat "Stop the World" track which she wrote with Jonas Brothers Nick Jonas and "Falling Over Me" which she collaborated with Jon McLaughlin.
Overall, Lovato has distanced herself from other Disney talent turned music artists with her latest album "Here We Go Again". She can act but she can also sing and she has positioned herself to become one of the prominent young singers in the musical scene today.
This album is definitely recommended! Here We Go Again Overview2009 sophomore album from the teen Pop sensation and star of Disney's Camp Rock and Sonny With A Chance. Demi's debut album, Don't Forget, sold half a million copies and she performed for over one million people as special guest on the Jonas Brothers' 2009 sold out Burning Up tour. Here We Go Again, her eagerly awaited album, contains two bonus tracks: 'Gift Of A Friend' and 'So Far So Good' (from Sonny With A Chance).

The Best of Bonnie Raitt ReviewHeart-felt, visceral country-accented vocals, the slide guitar, & phenomenal lyrics - *plus* rock and roll, country, the blues, and some reggae beats in at least three tracks ... she can play with the best of them and come out the "winner". Her voice is unique, her style of playing original - she sets the standards for modern blues and country female vocals. Only one other female vocalist achieved such fame and recognition -- Patsy Cline who is in a different category altogether ...
If you like 'feel good', 'tell it like it is' lyrics with an upbeat sound, at times gripping gut-wrenching vocals - it is here! This compilation has some classics like, "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About" and "I Can't Make You Love Me" but also unexpected slower, quieter tunes, such as "Dimming of the Day", "One Belief Away", and "Hear Me Lord". I hear a Caribbean reggae style beat in the last one ... it is also present at the beginning of "Have a Heart" and at least one other track. The bluesy style in many tracks are balanced off by other styles to create a well rounded complete collection.
I loved seeing Bonnie Raitt on TV specials but never bought her music. I am pleased to have found this compilation. Someone carefully sorted out 'the best' plus added a good sample of her different styles so that an uninitiated fan, like me, can have it all, in one CD. Anyone faintly attracted to 'cross-over' styles of country, blues, and rock and roll would love this CD. Once hearing this CD there will be no doubt about purchasing it. This lady is in a class by herself!

Queen of Rockabilly ReviewI heard an excerpt of this CD on NPR along with an interview of Wanda Jackson. The first and just about only lady of Rockabilly was friends with Elvis and should be more of a legend that she is. And she is still around, still making music.
Wanda's voice is absolutely unique; once you hear her raspy, dirty-girl version of "Let's Have a Party" you may be as hooked as I was. Her voice has great variety, her arrangements are classic. Since Amazon puts up clips for you to hear, listen to "Let's Have a Party" and "Fujiyama Mama" for starters.
I bought this CD and played it for my rock n' roll loving mate and he was absolutely smitten. He had never heard of Wanda Jackson, but now she's his favorite.
If you love Elvis, Rock 'n Roll, you will adore Wanda Jackson and this CD is not only great for the songs it includes but it has SO MANY OF THEM. You cannot go wrong with this CD.Queen of Rockabilly Overview

Enter At Your Own Risk ReviewThis second album I enjoyed even more than the first, maybe because Rustie's voice underwent some changes, maybe because she had a better sound engineer, maybe because the wind blew from a different direction, maybe..... Don't know exactly why, but it sounded better to me. Hey, maybe it was because I got it for free as a result of a "2 for 1" sale Rustie was having at the time. I always did like the price of, FREE!! ;-) But anyway you look at it, there aren't any bad tracks on this album and that's an honest statement folks! It all came together for Rustie on this album; the song selection, the band she had behind her, the engineering crew, the whole enchilada. My picks for favorite tracks start with the title song, "Enter At Your Own Risk," which contains a line about "watch out for the midnight work all over this town." Now I ask you, since poor ol' Doug works a midnight shift, can't you expect me to love a song with lyrics like that? Other 'best picks' include "I'm Not Going Til I'm Gone", "So Close, So Far", "Trouble" (another real honky tonk toe tapper), and especially "In Care Of The Blues" (with a neat sax part!) and "Looking Back" which is a slow ballad type that would be great for a "hold'em close" slow dance with your favorite honey. I think the really great piano playing by Tim Atwood really contributes a lot to the overall sound of the songs! I've never met Mr. Atwood, but based on the performance he added to this album, he can expect to get a call from me if I ever put a band together. Go buy a copy of this album folks. You won't be sorry!Enter At Your Own Risk OverviewRustie Blue, an International Recording Artist and Performer! In May of 2002, Blue hit the #1 spot on the "Hot Country Singles Chart" with her latest single "On and On and On" from her new album "Enter At Your Own Risk;" She Has toured such countries as Denmark, Belgium, Holland, and Germany, and will be heading to New Zealand in March of 2003!!
