Aerial Boundaries ReviewAnyone interested in discovering the massive changes in contemporary acoustic guitar playing perpetrated by just one man, this is the mandatory first step. Aerial Boundaries is, without doubt, the record that presented Michael Hedges to the world as the ultimate acoustic guitar visionary, stretching the limits of the instrument to accomodate his uncanny musical ideas. I was fortunate enough to meet him on various occasions, and to study with John Stropes, responsible for his transcription work. On such occasions, Hedges told me that, despite the fact that he felt the necessity of evolving his music, this was his most accurate attempt to revolutionize the way the acoustic guitar should sound. Without question, his best and most essential recording.Aerial Boundaries OverviewNo Description AvailableNo Track Information AvailableMedia Type: CDArtist: HEDGES,MICHAELTitle: AERIAL BOUNDARIESStreet Release Date: 07/07/1987

Music for Creativity ReviewThis album is superb! The selections chosen, the artists performing, and the choice of sequencing combine to create what I believe to be the finest three CD set of selected (mostly)Baroque music I have ever encountered. It truly is music to encourage a creative state. I am a retired classical music devotee.Music for Creativity Overview

Solo Para Ti ReviewOttmar Liebert plays a very good guitar and he wants to share his expertise with a global audience. His music is truly beautiful and very relaxing. When listening to this CD you can partake in just about any activity. If you like to read or have creative endevors this is perfect music that stimulates but does not demand your complete attention. The songs for the most part are very mellow. Lush and lyrical the arraignments are a sophisticated blend of pop flamenco that works. There is an intersting version of the "Marvin Gaye's" classic "Mercy, Mercy, Me". The difference here is that it is sung in Spanish in a flamenco style that would make the deceased Motown artist proud. Lots of good tunes here, with a variety of tempos to keep your interest. One of Lieberts better efforts that he has released over the years, this CD has withstood the test of time. Released in 1992, the fine instrumentation keeps it alive. A highlight from this CD is the duet with Carlos Santana which I never get tired of. The song is 'Samba Pa Ti", originally penned and made famous by Santana. The different arraignment makes it hardly recognizeable as Liebert has taken creative freedom to make something new. The music is enchanting and bordering on mystical inspiration. An excellent addition to any complete collection of nuevo flamenco.Solo Para Ti Overview

Classical Gas ReviewThis album, released in 1987, may not be the one you want...
The song Classical Gas, by Mason Williams, has been recorded many times. Mason Williams has recorded at least three different versions himself, so it's not too surprising that many people end up buying something different than they expected. Here is a list of some of the more notable versions:
Title: Classical Gas
Performer: Mason Williams
Album: The Mason Williams Phonograph Record
Year: 1968
Comment: This is the original hit you have heard on the radio many times.
Title: Classical Gas
Performer: Mason Williams
Album: Handmade

Album: Street Dreams
Year: 1986
Comment: Features acoustic and electric guitar, violin, and flute - an interesting listen.
Title: Classical Gas
Performer: Mason Williams and Mannheim Steamroller

Angels of Love ReviewYngwie has been a household name for years when it comes to anything related to guitars. His earlier works such as Rising Force or Trilogy have become classics and are considered by many to be the definitive of musicianship and guitar artistry. If you are one of those people then you might as well not read any of the reviews including my own, as this album will please you. Any others whom maybe skeptical please continue reading.
This album as you should and probably already do know is predominantly acoustic. Which means if you are a fan of Yngwie's earlier riffing and faster paced Metallic sound then there is a 50/50 chance this album might be a bit of a disappointment. Now don't think this isn't an amazing album because it is honestly one of the best acoustic albums I have heard. There are electric guitar pieces but they are sparse and more a part of the background to help create a dynamic contrast to the acoustic guitars, rather then the rip roaring leads Yngwie is better known for.
The all around pace of the album is slow and at times has a haunting ambiance untouched by fellow guitar legends. There is quite a bit of orchestral/keyboard work in the background giving the songs more structure rather then just having the guitars alone, this I am thankful for. I love good guitar playing, but I enjoy it more when it is accented by some kind of backdrop. Being a long time fan of Malmsteen and his various works I can honestly say this is one of my favorite releases by him in some time.
I highly recommend this album to all of the Malmsteen fan base, but as I noted be cautious as fans of the Metal side of his music may be put off. Furthermore fans of acoustic and guitar playing in general will be impressed by his skills on this release and should also be able to appreciate this. However new fans should look into his earlier releases before delving into Angels Of Love, start with anything from the 80's and make your way towards his more recent releases. All in all and giving my honest and completely unbiased opinion; This album ranks up there with his earlier works as far as overall musicianship goes.
Thank you for reading and I hope that I have encouraged you to purchase this or other of Yngwie Malmsteen's various releases. I enjoy the feedback so if my review helped you or at least intrigued you please let me know by clicking the button below, again thank you for reading.

Grace ReviewWith an extensive music library, I find myself returning almost exclusively to Snatam Kaur. I have every one of her CD's on constant rotation in my home, car, and office. Not only do I absolutely love listening, meditating, and living to her music. But I've come to realize that I operate from a better and more loving place when I have her playing in the background while at my demanding and high-profile job in the corporate offices of a fortune 50 company.
With so much gratitude, thank you Snatam for becoming the soundtrack to my life.
Paul
Denver, ColoradoGrace OverviewThis is Snatam Kaur's latest release and it is a joy to behold. Snatam has woven a magnificent tapestry of Gurmukhi, English, violin, guitar and flute and produced an album that is both spiritually moving and foot tapping at the same time.Like every Kundalini Yoga class, the album begins with the chant Ong Namo and unfolds with Snatam's flawless voice dancing over gentle flute, Indian violin, nylon string guitar and subtle keyboard. She weaves in devotional English lyrics such that one experiences the essence of the Gurmukhi chant with simple clarity. With deeply-moving music composed jointly by Thomas Barquee and Snatam Kaur, the second track, Ray Man, seduces listeners into a state of sublime meditation. The lyrics translate to "Oh my mind, practice yoga in this way."The third track, Hari Har, is the liveliest song Snatam has ever recorded.A fast-paced, drum-filled mantra that gets you up on your feet, this track introduces us to a much stronger side of Snatam's vocals. The next track, a simple and beautiful version of the healing meditation Ra Ma Da Sa, is accompanied by slow and soft classical guitar and keyboards with the flavor of a lazy river, gently flowing by on a summer afternoon. The final two tracks reveal the true cross-over nature of this album. Both in English, they are two songs very near to Snatam's heart. The first, By Thy Grace, has been a favorite at her live performances over the last year. This track sheds light on the title of the album, opening with the line "It is by the Grace that I sing Your Holy Name." Closing with an original composition of the Irish blessing, May the Long Time Sun Shine Upon You … a sweet and grace-filled farewell prayer.

Music for Yoga & Other Joys ReviewI love anything by Jai Uttal, but in my opinion this CD takes the prize. I am a yoga instructor and every time I play this CD for our practice, more than a few students come up and ask me about it. The music is haunting and hypnotic and there is something about it that reaches into your soul. I and many of my students have gotten into that "yoga zone" by the end of the practice -- after savasana, some have told me that they definitely were in a different place because of the music. Buy this CD, you won't regret it.
Namaste!Music for Yoga & Other Joys OverviewJai Uttal-premier world music composer and 2003 Grammy®nominee-offers a moving mix of melody, rhythms, and chants with Music for Yoga and Other Joys.Known for his eclectic blend of East-meets-West sound, Jai offers listeners his first album created especially for yoga practice. More than 60 minutes of sensual music featuring dotar, electric guitar, and slide tamboura, all complemented by Jai's full, golden-toned voice.Produced in collaboration with Ben Leinbach. Also an excellent choice for meditating, gardening, driving, and bodywork.

Barcelona Nights: The Best of Ottmar Liebert 1 ReviewOh please, all these people who are so worried about this genre blending with their sacred "Flamenco." Some of the best Flamenco-inspired music is stuff like this and the work of Steve Stevens, artists who think outside the box. Music is flexible and evolving; what you call it or label it doesn't matter. Nobody seems to mind that Ricky Martin or Enrique Igelsias represent "Spanish" or "Latin" pop music. To me, Alberto Iglesias would be the real deal!
In my estimation, Flamenco has always been an art form influenced by many different forces and subject to change and evolution. Why is there such a nationalistic pride among many of its fans that ends up precluding such visionaries as Liebert, who have devoted their lives to making wonderful music, from taking part? Is it because he is not 100% Spanish?
The same exclusionary mentality that wants to limit Flamenco works well in Bible music in the South. The irony is that a Latin talent is often more welcome in other genres than a Gringo's is to Flamenco. The entire genre of Flamenco suffers much more from exclusionary thinking than it does from cross-pollination. How sad that such a beautiful art form is tainted by control freaks. Those of you who bash the likes of Liebert bash one who is intensely accomplished and pays such homage and utmost respect (not to mention commercial attention and longevity) to the art form. Very sad, indeed. You should be bashing Ricky and Enrique first!
Those of you who are so close-minded (You're probably ignoring me because of my Gringo status, anyway) should check out a really cool blue grass band I know. You'll be made to feel much more welcome than Liebert has in the wild world of Flamenco "purists."
This album is a wonderful collection of soulful, technically masterful sounds from a true visionary who pays the highest tribute to Spanish guitar by infusing it with fresh blood and vouchsafing its wonders to the masses. And it's better quality Flamenco than lots of other stuff on the market! Oh, sweet blasphemy! This is no dilettante - this man lives and breathes his music.
Other genres should only be so lucky!Barcelona Nights: The Best of Ottmar Liebert 1 OverviewMusic

Windham Hill Chill: Ambient Acoustic ReviewThis is really more just a label sampler than a successful "chill" compilation. Windham Hill has put out many excellent collections in the past, most notably the underrated and genre-setting "Path" CD. That was a CD with many new tracks and new artists. It really opened my mind up to some great music. This new "chill" set does a very poor job of backing up the boast from the album's subtitle - "30 essential tracks from the original chill out label."
Start with disc one, the "ambient" disc. So many of the cuts are from previous albums - even from previous W.H. collections! Often this is the 3rd or even 4th compilation appearance for some tunes! Windham Hill is getting like Higher Octave, endlessly re-packaging the same songs over and over. Some of these cuts are not even "ambient." The Ravi Shankar theme is nice enough, but isn't "chill" OR "ambient." It clashes with the other songs on disc one. The piece from Yanni is like watered-down Vangelis. Of course he is from the Tesh school of muzak and doesn't really belong on any compilation looking for credibility anyhow.
The 2nd disc, "acoustic," has some excellent themes from Nightnoise, Will Ackerman, and others. Again, though, many of the songs have been anthologized to death already. If you own just about ANY W.H. compilation, you've probably already got "Rickover's Dream" from Michael Hedges and "Wedding Rain" from Liz Story. Instead of putting out the same music again, it would be much better if Windham Hill would come up with something new for a change.Windham Hill Chill: Ambient Acoustic Overview

Stratosphere Boogie: The Flaming guitars Of Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant ReviewMy father, Jimmy Bryant, played the heck out of his Telecasters - in fact, he was the first artist to play a Fender guitar for Leo Fender. If you play guitar and have never heard him play, this may scare you to grasp the thought of him doing this in the early to mid 50's - just think about being the first to play a solid body electric guitar without having someone else to copy chops from - and it sounding like this! Hope you like it - you can read more about my dad at ...
Kind regards,
John BryantStratosphere Boogie: The Flaming guitars Of Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant OverviewPedal steel-er West and guitarist Bryant were the most in-demand session musicians of the '50s. On their own, though, is when they really let loose; and this 16-track collection culling the best of their Capitol instrumentals contains country, jazz, bluegrass and space-age effects that musicians are still scratching their heads over 40 years later! Deep Within a Faerie Forest ReviewThis is the most "Gothic" or "dark" sounding album of Stadler's. I'm not familliar with Rule's other work, but this disk is my favourite of the Faerie series. It's absolutely gorgeous, with transcendental musick and divine near-operetic aethereal vocals atop. She does sound like a Fae queen. I would recommend this to anyone who embraces the more dark side of Fae; someone big on introspection and meditation. This is a great release.. thanks you guys for such a gift.~DJ Raven~

Missoula, MTDeep Within a Faerie Forest OverviewRediscover the magic - Become filled with exquisite beauty as you journey into a mystical land of dreams. This new collaboration from bestselling composer Gary Stadler (Fairy HeartMagic) and Australian vocalist Wendy Rule leads you through landscapes of forest, deep into the heart of nature. Those who are familiar with Gary's previous albums will recognize the soulful beauty of his piano based soundscapes. To this Gary now adds artful Cello, Uilleann Pipes, and classical guitar. Combine that with the magical voice and gentle guitar of Australian singer/songwriter Wendy Rule and the lovely Celtic harp of Lisa Lynne, and the result is absolutely breathtaking. While their music can be compared to Enya or Loreena Mckennitt, they have crafted their own special style.Come along with them on this serene andspellbinding journey, as images of the ancient Celtic Faerie realm come alive once more and touch you with enchantment.

Oceanic ReviewThe brief, offhand comments tossed off by the editorial reviewer of this excellent album are obviously at odds with what a lot of fans are saying about this gem. Ocean waves lead into a short, majestic introduction with strings, harp, woodwind, a lovely violin. The follow-up is a quick climb to a pulsating, delightful "Siren's Whispering." The sirens sing vocalise, and are then answered by an exciting men's choir. There is grandeur in the sound of this music, and yet it is always restrained and calming.
I am, admittedly, a big Vangelis fan, but there is perhaps no other work of his that has such focus, a completely felicitous combination of pop and classical elements. I have played this on low volume at night as the crew and I fall asleep after a long day of sailing; then my vessel is filled with a rich and soothing, peaceful music.
The excitement dies down and the well-named "Dreams of Surf" is a serene interlude for piano and a luminous background of electronica.
Spanish Harbor is edgier, a quiet rocker with long crescendos and decrescendos. The highlight is the Spanish guitar, accompanied by an atmospheric orchestral background, shimmering and luminous.
In Islands of the Orient, Vangelis explores Asian rhythmic complexities in a meditative piece. There is a jazzy subtext to this music, and it ends with considerable energy and percussion.
Fields of coral is another quiet piece, of lento mood and reverberant arpeggios. A bell-like keyboard makes this a particularly attractive piece.
A lovely theme is explored in Aquatic Dance, which is, as the title indicates, more oriented toward movement. The nostalgic Memories of Blue, reverent in tone, and the finale, Song of the Seas, bring this beautiful album to a contempative close.
I love so many Vangelis albums, despite the occasional bombast and misfire. Here, however, there is no exaggeration, no self-indulgence, and the result is one of the sweetest, most endearing recordings Vangelis ever made. I'll end by noting that this is not merely innocuous music. There is an intensity under the slickly produced sheen of clear sound, a careful selection of ingratiating musical themes with subtle development that renders them larger than life, noble and uplifting in feel. It's quite an accomplishment, I'd humbly observe.

Nouveau Flamenco ReviewTrue, Ottmar Liebert isn't the most accomplished of guitarists. I own three of his CDs and can certainly see a repetitive factor. But then - I didn't buy "Nuevo Flamenco" to be a music critic. I bought it because when I listened to it the first time it went straight to my feet! This is rythmical & passionate music - whether labeled Flamenco or New Age! And I can honestly say that more people have asked me "What CD is that? " when I played it than any other of the many albums I own. However: In my opinion this is by far the best Liebert album. The others aren't too hot...especially not "Borrasca" (IMHO)...Nouveau Flamenco Overview

The music is very peaceful and calming, while still being musically interesting. I find myself humming many of the melodies throughout the day, as they are very catching. This CD has had heavy playing time since I bought it; I listen to it while studying, reading, cooking, etc. It rarely ever gets stored on the shelf--more like a permanent home next to the cd player, if not *in* the cd player. Passion Session ReviewPunchy or melodic, Celtic, or (?), this guy does it all; and blends techniques like no one I've ever heard. Amazing right- and left-hand work, timing, and musical sensability. This guy can play with anybody. He summons many of the same sounds from his guitar as the late Michael Hedges, though he developed them independently, more or less at the same time as Michael did. But, it's all part of the music. Like he says: Heavy Wood.
The simple production style really works. The recording is wonderful and nothing gets between you and the music.
I was just introduced to Don Ross's music two weeks ago from a friend's friend in Vancouver, BC. It sure is hard for Canadians to get exposure in the US. I've been listening to "new acoustic music" for 20 years and I had never heard of him.

Songs From a Secret Garden ReviewI first heard "Songs from a Secret Garden" playing in a music store eight years ago, and I was entranced from the very first note. The music was a blend of classical, Celtic and Norwegian, a stunning combination of piano, violin, orchestra and voice. It was unlike anything I'd ever heard before: deeply moving, relaxing, meditative, a journey to a secret garden, perfect music for reflection on a rainy day.
Secret Garden is made up of Norwegian composer Rolf Lovland on piano and Irish violinist Fionnuala Sherry. They have since released four other CDs: "White Stones," "Dawn of a New Century," "Dreamcatcher" (a best-of compilation taken from the first three releases), and "Once in a Red Moon," but for me "Songs from a Secret Garden" remains their masterpiece. It is by turns gentle, romantic, melancholy, playful and joyous. There is a Celtic element on some of the songs ("Sigma," with an Irish-language chorus and a boy soprano, "The Rap,"), but it is not as marked as their later releases, which to me sound like Riverdance imitations and have lost all of the "Secret Garden" magic for me. "Nocturne" features the stunning vocals of Gunnhild Tvinnereim, and this was the song that first catapulted Secret Garden to fame (it won the 1995 Eurovision song contest for Norway). My other favourite songs from the collection are "Songs from a Secret Garden" and "Sigma."
(I was lucky enough to pick up a copy of the sheet music to "Songs from a Secret Garden" and I play selections from it every day. The foreword is in English and Norwegian, and there are additional notes by Rolf regarding performance tips and inspirations behind the songs. If you play piano, this is a worthy investment for a Secret Garden fan. The collection features all thirteen songs from "Songs from a Secret Garden" and is available at their official website at www.secretgarden.no)
This is still a very popular album even though it was released in 1994: it is one of BMG Music Club's top-selling classical CDs, Barbara Streisand did a cover of "Heartstrings" for her wedding, adding lyrics and renaming it "I've Dreamed of You," and some of my favourite places in Québec City use "Songs from a Secret Garden" as background music (Aux Anciens Canadiens, 34 Rue Saint-Louis, Domaine Steinbach, 2205, chemin Royal
Saint-Pierre de l'Île d'Orléans).
This is the only CD I reach for after a long day. The stress just melts away and my spirits are lifted instantly. "Songs from a Secret Garden" is perfect for anyone seeking a quiet moment in their lives, a moment to reflect, dream, love, and explore their own secret garden.Songs From a Secret Garden Overview
